its been quite an interesting thread but I cant believe how much nonsense has been spouted by some warriors flat out through craniers in any car and 137mph through druids
Looking at the vid Mike posted up it does look busy and I'm not sure how Mike was timing (counting in your head) come on Mike you said you was doing 1.17's and wanted to get into the 1.14's and 120 mph through craniers ..... yeah maybe before you break for the old hairpin after all you hardly hit any apex's and braking way too early on cups for redgate, your fastest lap in traffic was only 1.24 on the vid can you let me know where you got your data logger from because I want one

Hi, I have hit 1.17 before in the GT3 but not this day.
I already said I just watch some of the laps and manually time the video when at home on the big screen.
It was a really busy day but did manage to hit 120mph through the curves. That is the fastest I have been through there to date. I have only started to properly video the sessions this time but did not record the while day as this was taken on my iPhone so not always in the mount.
I went there that day to try as always beat your last day. That did not happen as it was way too busy for any sort of smooth consistent lap, always being held up and so many stoppages meant no real pace.
As for data logger try Harry's lap timer(at your own risk) for iPhone I hear it can do all sorts of data logging.

Thats said 1.17 is very impressive for a 96GT3 (where is the video for this ?) but in the nicest most respectful way I have to say that you should go racing and hit some test days. Laptimes, peak speeds and fine chassis/setup adjustments just dont' sit right with recreational trackdays. The traffic in that video is insane, not to mention some of the general muppetry taking place. Once you're interested in really being fast and finding out how fast you really are, its time to leave trackdays IMO, it's the wrong environment.

That said, I enjoyed the video and it looked like a real battle - just worried about the crash aspect with novices around you and the speed differentials in play.
If I was rich enough I'd get a GT3 and track it too
PS Mike S&C - did you ever get track day tuition, or did you just go on track days and learn it yourself - looks like you were very capable in pushing the GT3 ?

Hi, had some help from thegoose and keepitlit off here. Done quite a few days this year and feel both the car and me are very comfortable together. That said, I enjoyed the video and it looked like a real battle - just worried about the crash aspect with novices around you and the speed differentials in play.

Thanks for the kind words.

On the 137mph at Druids question, that's most probably the peak approach speed through Watertower on the approach, for most race cars this is the peak speed point round the full circuit.
similar entry speed to Island bend.<<awaits the "Watertower is easy flat in any car" comments>>

ok mate I love and respect Ultimas.. been on track with plenty over the years at many tracks. I don't now much about the Top Gear laptimes other than what i see on the shows.. but I do know what speeds can be taken around what corners at my local track Oulton.. an race Ultima may be able to enter Druids at 100++ mph but it will not carry that entry speed and could never exit near 137mph..
for ref; data showed our GT CUP Class 1 race winning TVR Sagaris 420hp & 1050kgs on new slicks and piloted by Danny Winstanley (one of hottest young GT racers around) exited Druids @ 96mph on a 1.41s winning lap.

<powerful car with standard tyres and no aero> + <craners flat out> = scenery/car interface problem ...
The last time I checked I didn't look like Tiff or God so I will stick with 115 leptons .... Now with my new race car, which I know does at least 137mph on Druids at oulton (still not flat out), that might do it ... ... Or roll trying
.. hang on I never said you would carry 137 through druids - that's crazy .. I am talking from the second kerb, over the slight crest to the very slight corner before the bridge IIRCThe last time I checked I didn't look like Tiff or God so I will stick with 115 leptons .... For ref Ultima is 970kg kerb weight and slicks with at least 720bhp NA.
Just for fun and not really relevant, I've just stuck a lap of Oulton up on youtube from earlier this year. It was my fastest lap of the race, but I do have a good excuse it being my first race back having previously had an off at Brands which broke two ribs. The front runners put in 1.38ish laps.
Anyway, just for a bit of fun... http://youtu.be/xT5gKFsMhAk

You turned in to Cascades a lot earlier than the instructor was telling me to on Tuesday. Bloody impressive.
Thanks All.
Cascades is one of those corners where the circuit guide show two lines through it. From memory the "proper" line is later turn-in, but it gets you onto that slightly off-camber bit and I get scared there. So the earlier turn in seems to feel better. No idea which is quicker.
If you notice the car in the gravel on the right coming in to shell-oils corner that was a result of trying to be flat through Island.

exit speed @ Druids is 170kph/105mph & a 1.40's laptime.. a full blown GT car will be quicker than a radical up the straights.. but the fastest British GT cars were lapping the same time as the fastest Radicals this year @ Oulton both around 1.38's...

Impressive video, it looks to be MUCH quicker than mine of doing 1.56ish in a 964 or Boxster. I know I'd never find the 3 seconds to keep up with you but the impression of the difference in speed from the film is even greater. Seeing how stiff and flat it seems has made me look forward to racing my friend's Sports2000 again at Anglesey in a few weeks even more .
Incidentally, last time at Oulton I managed to take Island "flat" every lap.......but I was braking with my left foot simultaneously. It worked though, car was more stable and video data showed no reduction in apex speed. To develop from there it's then a matter of moderating the braking input each lap to increase speed (and not falling off!).
