That's actually quite a realistic price, to start with. Chance your arm at £15k, and be happy to settle at anything under £16k.

Its pratts like you that make selling private so difficult. You focus on the price being offered and not the value of the car being sold. So in this case, that car is very well priced but you'll insist on knocking £2k off for some spurious reason like- " I really want a 4 door saloon but will have your if you give it me for £2k off". I usually write or respond by saying that I was willing to knock £2.5k off but couldnt possibly sell it to you as I would feel guilty at making you buy the wrong car.
I don't think that's what I said, at all, and would therefore prefer you to withdraw that remark. As far as I am aware, I don't know you, and find it hard to understand why you feel the need to be abusive.
If someone is desperate for the money and have no luck selling, then they may be willing to deal at what would be a pretty good price for the buyer.
Everyone values cars that they are interested in. Unfortunately, too many sellers over-value their cars compared to others available on the market. I have nothing against sellers trying to maximise the capital they receive from the sale of their car, but in return expect them to realise that I will be trying to get the best deal for me - I'm not a charity.
Where did the idea of knocking the price down, on the basis that it was the wrong car? Not my idea, and not a tactic that I would use.
The only time that I have used similar, was with a Boxster that I bought last August. I believe my words were something like "I've been looking for a certain car for the past four months. Yours has the wrong gearbox, and is the wrong colour, but at such a good price that you've tempted me to buy."
We then shook on full asking price, and the car was bought.

I've just been offered this http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/460133.htm and £10k his way in part-ex for mine!
Let me know, I have a black Carerra 2 s 996 1999 thats immaculate with only 62k on the clock (coupe).

Had the porsche inspection done - so could quite easily slap a warranty on it.

Could be interested as I never driven a boxster - if we are talking similar figures.

Just a crazy idea but I'm trying to own all the cars I've ever wanted - now that I can afford it !

You have only owned the 996 for 5 months, you bored of it already?

And that's another strange thing. The reserve is set at 26.5k. I have said clearly in the ad that it won't sell for a penny less than that. So how come people bid silly figures like a pound and 5 grand when it says that? What's the point? What do you gain from bidding once, miles less than the reserve? I can't work it out confused
Any reason why you didn't just stick a buy it now price at £26,500 or set the starting price at £26,500?

Well yeah, 'cos 26.5k is the minimum I would like, but more would be nice. If 2 people want it and one is prepared to pay the buy it now price then they will.

Using a starting price of 26.5k puts people off bidding I think, but you may well be onto something there, might try that next time.

The GT3 alloys are off the car and available to anyone who wants them. I've not advertised them yet. PM me if you want some pics and info.

Anybody with a 3.2 Boxster want to do a deal with a 2001 M5??

I've had the car since 2006 but my circumstances have changed and I'm keen to get something convertible - whilst I'll miss 400bhp biggrin, I drove a 3.2 S recently and was surprised by how much fun it offers for something 'relatively' sedate.

perhaps someone out there needs a bit more practicality??;)

pm me if you want to talk....

Someone off ebay believe it or not. £7900, not a bad price.
