This is ours in situ:

They are actually what I was thinking about, had them on the MX5, got them on my 3 Series and considering the Mrs isn't going to be doing many laps of Donington I think they'll be just fine and £150 a set cheaper than Continue 'N's

£47k! Are you sure?
Well from the Porsche 2000 price list.....
Base car £34,232
Lux pack £2,905
Metallic Paint £745
CDR 22 CD player £95
Sound package £375
Cruise Control £450
Exhaust tip £252
Painted roll bar £347
3 Spoke wheel £196
Leather package £2,490
Heated seats £365
Door guards £295

Totaling a mere £43k
Managed to get the total down by saving £1,415 by speccing the Lux Pack instead of the individual bits.
Might be a few extras I haven't found yet, only got it home a few hours ago and looking forward to having a play. driving

I've done plenty on laps of the ring on 452s. A great tyre for general road use or track work.

Ps: I'm loving all these shots of original 986 boxsters. They have acquired a certain late 90s retro cool, especially when sporting the amber indicators.

When the 2.5 Boxster was launched in 1997 it was very easy – normal even – to spec it up to well over £40k.

What people have forgotten is that Porsche slashed prices across the board in 2000 in response to the flood of imports from Europe where, at the time, prices were much lower.

I remmber the days of the £40k+ 2.5L Boxster but the Euro was once at 1.60 to the £ and I was tempted to order one from Norway/Finland (I think) to save 30%+ but didn't fancy the prospect of an 18 month wait. Bought a Scooby in Holland instead.

Regarding the price, I can't quite remember when it was phased out but there used to be a new car registration tax in force which [ISTR] was 10% for a long time then possible reduced to 5% before being dropped altogether...

My old one was a C16 first registered in IOM so the first buyer took this route I suspect.

Spoke to someone who had one of the first couple of batches of 2.5's in the Uk and his was 'just over £40k'. They kept it a few months and sold on, nicely run in, for a small profit.

Nice 3.2 BTW.

My budget Pork, only paid £8,600 for it and that was 18 months ago!

The options on this car cost more than I paid for it.

How I wish I hadn't seen that, that colour/spec is about the nicest I've seen on any 986 S. You must be pleased!

Sorry to hear that, have you got a link to your thread?

That issue does play on my mind occasionally and I have an ever growing reserve fund for just such an occurance.

It's actually earmarked for a 996 Carrera 4S but should the unthinkable happen before I trade it in then It will pay for transplanting a 996 3.6ltr engine or a 997 3.8 if I can find one in to the Boxster.

Obviously it's not Budget Pork anymore at that point but still a damn nice car.

st that's harsh man.

Best get the engine out and sent over to either Hartech or Autofarm for a rebuild.

If your feeling flush and haven't lost all your love for the Boxster Autofarm can up size your engine too whilst it's there.

2.5 taken out to 2.8
2.7 to 3.0
3.2 S out to 3.7 or even 3.9 with a Crank change.

Although that might be too much to think about right now!

Good luck however you proceed.

Just reading through the posts in here. Your poverty pork looks like mine! Same blue, leather and wheels. Really like mine, nice day roof down and a good road absolutely brilliant.

I have been burning around in my MY99 2.5 boxster all weekend . Top off as weather was fab . Never realised how well these cars handle , never been able to take corners at these sort of speeds before . My old 911 and my old s2000 would struggle to keep up . Now I know what all the fuss was about when it came to handling .

Anyway a few questions now . I see the last service was done 18 months back but only 9000 miles ago so it needs doing . How much is a basic servic at an Indy as last one was major at Leicester OPC .?

Also on last MOT it said excessive play in ball joint . Any idea about cost of these, both sides as its bound to be worse now ? I will have the alignment done after these are replaced also .

Cheers

Wife's 1999 Boxster had it's 62,000 mile service last week (not had the bill/invoice yet) frown.

Bad news
100+ for driver's side sun visor (retaining spring/clip had broken and for some reason you cannot replace this - you have to buy the complete visor assembly).

Good news
Apart from fuel filter and some fluids all is well, so I treated her to a soft-top refurb (separate thread on this), replaced the ashtray with an "oddments" tray (20.00 - lovely) and spurged 100 on some coloured crested wheel centres.

17/03/2012 Invoice day for 62,000 mile service - not too bad!

Oil filter 17.03
8.5 litres of engine oil 84.32
Air filter 29.61
Pollen filter 47.28
6 x spark plugs 46.08
Fuel filter 29.88
Brake fluid 20.00
+ a few sundries

Car feels like new (makes a great sound).

A few jobs in the next few weeks: Replace rear discs, replace anti-roll bar link, replace lower suspension arm bushes and sort out exhaust front pipe securing studs (corroded nuts).
