Would you recommend Bernard Aubrey Gav ?

I know he was used by Porsche to demonstrate the 996 turbo when it was first launched to new owners.
Definitely recommend him mate. Most of the day was spent on improving road driving, positioning, observations etc. I noticed a difference in my driving straight away, simple little changes that add up to make your driving smoother and safer.

We also spent a few hours at the Chobham test track doing high speed cornering and general fast track/road driving. He drove the car a bit and was able to control it in a way I still couldn't after 2 years with it.

Glad you're enjoying the car, and using it as intended.

It really gets pampered with the Auto glym but boy do I use it, I need to actually calm down with the miles because I can really see the price of these things going through the roof !

Forget the miles and keep enjoying it - any price rise is likely to be small and not worth leaving the car in the garage more often. IMO..

Well after a lot of years of owning my car I'm heart broken to say yesterday it went to it's new owner. Due to a back injury from years ago it's just got too painful to drive with the heavy clutch and harsh ride... it will remain the ultimate car I've ever owned and with the full RUF upgrade I never managed to get used to the straight line performance and the RUF suspension showed that it could turn inside a 996 and 997 GT3 in the Alps time and time again (so if anyone ever tells you that a GT3 will out handle a GT2, setup right its just driver difference!).

It's been an amazing run with the car, it's never given any problems, is happy in traffic and will out drag an Enzo, what more could you ask of a car!

It did amaze me when I started to mention about selling it to a few friends just how many people wanted the car, hence it never came to the open market. I wish the new owner total happiness with the car and for him to complete one dream of breaking 200 mph (something very easy in the car).

As to everyone else, if you're thinking about getting one or have one and don't use it much for worry of mileage or anything. Just get out there and use it or buy it. Events might jump in the way and stop you much sooner in life than you think, so make the most of every day out there and enjoy the cars whilst you can!!!!!

I salute you Sir !

After reading that, I am reaching for the keys, sod the mileage you cant take it with you !!I went for an absolute blast of a drive late last night in the car, Got home and just let the thing cool down on idle listening to the Miltek exhaust pinging away and thought what a car. When these things are set up correctly they truly are a serious piece of kit smile balanced, plenty of feel with a twist of wheel spin in third. God knows what that 997 GT2 RS is like but for some reason, in my eyes the 996 GT2 just has that dirty look. Mmmmmsexy !

Hope you enjoy your next ride as much as you have the GT2

Had the car out all day yesterday and had a fantastic time in the process, I started out early with no particular destination, just driving for the sake of it. As the day got warmer I noticed the performance felt a little sluggish if you can call a GT2 sluggish but as the day cooled of it went back to kneck snapping quick, I know turbo motors don't like dense air but has anyone else noticed this. Will an Ally intercooler upgrade solve this problem as I'm planning to drive the wheels of the thing through Europe this summer where I'm sure the temps will be sky high.

Exactly the opposite, they love cool dense air !

Indeed. This is whole purpose of the intercooler.

As you increase the pressure of air, (e.g. in a turbo) then 'density' increases but the temperature also increases, hence the need for the intercooler.

Consul - I'd like to hear more on your thoughts on the GT2 in comparison to the turbo, as someone who has very recently made the switch.

I personally love my turbo, and can't really see how it can be bettered (but there are enough people in your position who have made the switch to suggest that it can)

To kick start, I totally got my "Air density" the wrong way round but I do feel a difference in hot weather with the power delivery. I stand corrected Slippy !
As for the switch from the Turbo to the GT2, Two different cars altogether ! last year I drove route Napolean but started at Le man's through Monaco and finished at Reims, I covered 2.5k in a week. The car was so good at everything it actually became boring if thats makes any sense. You knew that you are hauling down the road but the emotion through the seat of your pants for me just was not there. The steering feel felt numb in comparison but in the GT2 after having the car set up, it feels so alive. When I bought the Turbo I drove the car fast straight away but when I picked up the GT2 from 911Virgin, even at 30mph I remember thinking to myself I am never selling this car if can help it, it just gave me that fear and respect that I want in a car. I've driven 430's, 355's and have been blessed enough to do a few laps in Mk1 GT3, all great cars but they just did not have that rear wheel drive non tc feel about them ie savage acceleration that the GT2 has.
It's funny looking back, because I almost went for a 997GT2 but the 996 just appealed to me more, they just have a raw look about them.
If your thinking of making the switch, I can hand on heart say that if it's set up by someone like ie Fearnsport or Centre Gravity, you will be in ownership of something very special that you will grow to love and respect, you drive these cars in a different way in terms of setting the car up round a corner in a different manner to the Turbo, you actually feel were the level of grip is which makes me personally feel more secure especially when I took the car Gt2 round the Ring but in the Turbo you never really find the maximum level of grip.
My GT2 has comfort seats but I'm just waiting for the CS seats to arrive which are only going to further add to the feel.

Honestly speaking, if your thinking about it, Buy one now before in a few years time your looking at the same Car for a lot more because when people latch onto how good these things are no one in there right minds will want to sell...including
me !smile

Thanks Consul.

I'm totally happy with my turbo and have no intention of parting with it at the moment - it's perfect - but its good to know there's another level of perfection out there should I ever get a wandering eye. (although I think a Lambo or an Aston could be my next step)

Is it a mk1 or a mk2 you bought?

He did, 911v have sold it on three occasions now (but Andrew at Gmund had it on SOR when I tried to sell it originally back in '07) When this proved unsuccessful Tom and Henry bought it off me.

The 997 was an option but I would have had to sell my Hot Rod and that is far more special as it's a one of, so the 996 was within budget in order for me to keep both.

Either way you look at it, all of us on the site that own TT or GT2,s are so bloody lucky in this day and age ! Both cars are simply epic. It really is down to what your requirements are for each model, I just wanted something a bit impractical and the GT2 fitted the bill.

Thanks to the chaps at Fearnsport, I now have the CS seats installed with a new set of PF discs and bells, still running the brakes in but you can feel the pedal difference already. For some reason my back use to kill me in the comfort seats but on the way back with the buckets now installed my back felt great smile
