New Porsche Cayenne Diesel
Discussion
Yes I did hear that they had made small improvements to the diesel engine making the model even more desirable. As the owner of a 1st gen Cayenne Diesel I have to say that the new model is awesome. It's a huge improvement in pretty much every department. It's just a shame it takes so long to get your hands on one, by now (a year since launch?) I would have expected things to calm down a bit!
My OPC has suggested I wait to see if there are any cancellations in the pipeline, rather than place an order now. It's a riskier strategy but it could well pay off. He also thought that there might be some additional allocations at the end of the year, however nothing was certain.

Agree with Phooey, pay a 2k or 3k deposit so at least your on the list, then see if anything else comes up, deposits are refundable, so makes a lot of sense

I'm meeting my man tomorrow so will work something out no doubt. I got the feeling that they were going to find a solution. Anyway we'll see!Saj
Good point re deposits being refundable.
Six months sounds about normal and even good these days !!
I was quoted similar times for an Audi Q5, and BMW X3, with an even longer time for a Skoda Yeti !!
I've heard there's less money for manufacturer's in the UK now, and they are concentrating on other markets, if you can get your hands on one the used prices should hold up quite well at least.

Has anyone on here gone from a 1st Gen Diesel to 2nd?
I had a Gen 1 Diesel as a courtesy car several times in the past. My OPC kept trying to persuade me to buy one, but it never really appealed. Been in a couple of the Gen 2s and tried a demonstrator earlier this year. As said, it's better in almost every area, and now getting sorely tempted. Once winter arrives demand will no doubt increase.
I had an email from Porsche Kendal, a few weeks ago now, saying they had a slot which had come free for delivery before the end of the year (so a 3-4 month wait). I imagine if you called them and a few other OPC's, you might well get one in a similar time frame, if that is what you want.

Great, thanks!Had you ordered one yourself?

I'm glad there is still a long waiting list, as it means residuals will remain strong after I get mine at the end of the year!

This is surely quite "risky" indeed, as unless you have a very strong history with the dealer already, any cancellations get offered down the existing waiting list first, before they're offered to joe public.I have a Gen 2.1 diesel and whilst I didn't own a 2, I did drive one for 48-hours as an extended test drive.
At the time I was looking at both the RRS with the latest diesel and the 2010 Cayenne diesel. I had both on loan.
My verdict was that the RRS had the better engine but the Cayenne was nicer inside (better quality and ergonomics) and drove and handled better. I was left not sure what to do and in the end shelved the idea of changing for awhile.
In the end up ordered the Cayenne because whilst the engine in the RRS was better, it wasn't good enough to make me want to own another LR product. A week after I ordered I saw the press release stating Porsche were upgrading the engine and changing a few other bits, as well as adding more options to the list. I took delivery of the car in July and expected it to be a 1% better version of the car I drove but it isn't, it feels considerably better. The engine seems to have far more grunt and the handling is superb. The car feels planted and solid. I chatted with one of the drivers and asked him if he found the drive different and his opinion was similar, it wasn't a minor change but a pretty large one. As I haven't driven the 2010 diesel extensively, I may have just had an average car to drive; however, what ever the case, I cannot commend the latest diesel highly enough.

Great to hear lightningman, I should be going to my dealers soon to put in a final spec in soon
Ordered back in March 2010, but do not want the car until March 2011

Why are you going to the dealers "soon" then? My dealer says final spec doesnt go in until the car pretty much enters production which is only say a few weeks prior to delivery. Or are you having it built and then stored for a few months?Ordered back in March 2010, but do not want the car until March 2011

Interesting; are there many new bits and bobs to choose from? I havent seen a brochure for a while. I still want to see the rear seat tvs in the flesh. They look dog-ugly on the photos, but I really want them for the kids, and aftermarket ones arent possible in the new cayenne. Want contrast stitching, but havent seen a pic yet (there seems to be two types apparantly).

Yes a fair bit of new bits but for some reason not all on UK site, have a look through UAE site.I do NOT like the screens what so ever, there are some pics of the contrasting stitching on the UK site under the exclusive section along with other new bits, starts getting costly though !!!
Hope this helps
