Yeah was a right faf getting things right, but enough fiddling and it does get better. I removed the seat pad before fitting that helped a lot. Not the greatest fit but my daughter was always comfortable in it. The next size up which she has just moved into fits so much better..........and can be fitted/removed in seconds.

Drove 2 hours constantly up the motorway, and my 9 month daughter was fine. Really comfortable.
Near the end of my journey, some blind bat cut me up from the inside left lane of the roudabout, and I had to take swift evasive action... whilst my baby stretched out her arms to hold onto the side of the door, the seat belt worked well (on all three of us), and her seat was fine... just moved a lil as the seat belt would.

I'll probably keep it, and it has red piping which matches my Guards Red seatbelts! smile

I was going to try the Mamas & Papas Protec SA ATS seat today, but we didnt get around to it and the local store were too busy to answer the phone (to check stock).

So as well as online research, I have safety tested the seat as well!!!

Having been through all this (with a 996) the Britax Two-Way Elite was the best fit in our car and recommended by a specialist fitter (not Halfords etc). I wish I'd just gone straight there in the first place as it was sorted in a matter of minutes. Details in my post on the previous linked thread. It's very secure and safe up to 25 kg. Little one loves it.

If anyone is interested Halfords are doing their own brand booster for £8.50, this is a great fit in the back of a 996 for my 4 year old.

Just wanted to write a post for all those looking for a group 1 (9 months to 4 yrs) child seat for their 996. Firstly I've no idea how people can say that some of the car seats in this thread fit a 996. I tried many of the ones on the main post and although it was a useful post I was quite honestly shocked at how poorly many fitted.

I have a 996 C4S which perhaps has different rear seats (unlikely) to other models but I can assure you that the following seats do not work (all of which a member of staff at Halfords, Toys R Us or Kiddicare tried to fit):

Maxi Cosi Priori
Maxi Cosi Duo Plus
Maxi Cosi Tobi
Maxi Cosi Axiss
Britax Evolva 1-2-3
Recaro Young Sport
Cosato Moova

In the end I found this post (useful photos): http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=109...

Which recommended the BeSafe Izi comfort X3 (generally nowhere stocks this, seems to be available online only), also on the list earlier in this thread. Having just fitted this in my car I can say with confidence it's the only one I've mentioned which fits correctly (i.e. tight safe fit not loose and dangerous). You may have read that the Mamas & Papas Protec fits perfectly. That is now discontinued but it's actually Besafe who made that seat and it's exactly the same as the Izi comfort X3 which BeSafe launched after M&P discontinued the Protec.

So don't waste your time like me, just get the Besafe and save yourself the hassle of trying other seats.
maxicosi tobi fits just fine.... no slack... just need to fit it correctly wink

Agree, the one i have fits fine and is rock solid, albeit its in a 997!

As the lad is growing i'm looking for alternatives so as to reduce the size of the base the maxi has and allow his legs to dangle down more!

So any further recommendations are welcome smile

Maxicosi Tobi fits into 997 Carrera 2s back seat no problem. Gets around the belt problem with the Britax Prince.

Britax Duo Plus doesn't fit.

Maxi cosy pebble with easy fix base 2 doesn't fit.

All of this is true for the rear back seat. Good luck all, solution found :-)

Front seat is easy, isofix, anything goes.

Right, I thought I'd reply to this as used this thread to try and figure out what Group 1 seat (the one after rear facing 0-9kg) to use in our 996 Cabrio. And I had a right struggle!

First point to re-iterate, the rear bulkhead in a 996 Cabriolet is different to the coupe. It is further in due to roof mechanism and is also steeper. This precludes a lot of seats and also precludes removing the seat backs a lot of them time as this then leaves the ledge jutting out and a huge gap between seat back and bulkhead.

I pre-ordered the kiddy energy pro as these apparently fit. I could not get a good fit with these or the Guardian model. The staff at a specialist tried again today and also failed. I couldn't get it to seat decently in the base so it never actually felt secure (with/without the seat bases/back removed)

Yesterday evening at Mothercare we tried the Britax Duo plus and the Britax Prince. Neither of these fitted properly and we couldn't safely secure them (sorry, should have taken photos of all these attempts!). The lady there also reckoned she had no seat in stock that would work with the cabrio.

Further reading then suggested that the only guaranteed fit (that doesn't compromise front seat position) in the 996 Cabrio is the Nanio Trio Plus (now discontinued and not exactly glowing safety report from Which), the discontinued Porsche Prince (only available on eBay) and then the 'Britax two way elite'. This is not sold in the uk by Britax so it's re-imported from Sweden by one company in England, http://incarsafetycentre.co.uk/product/2-way-elite... .

By sheer coincedence, one of their three branches is 5 minutes from us and also, 1 of the only 2 Porsche Prince seats on eBay was also 5 minutes away! In my opinion the Porsche Prince isn't a good fit, it's designed to fit perfectly in the coupe so, again, doesn't match the steeper bulk head on the cabrio. Also, it's basically just a covered piece of polystyrene with an abdomen bar. With some hassle it could be wedged in but you would have to do this every time you put the child in the car.

So, I've come to the conclusion that the ONLY seat the fits the 996 cabrio back and doesn't impinge on front leg room (like the maxi-cosi tobi does) is the Britax two way elite. The only downside which I don't think you can get round is that they are very upright so if nipper falls asleep the heads slump forward.

These are great seats. Had them in my 996 and now in my 997 (pretty much identical fit). I think the head slumping forward is inevitable with any child seat in a 996/7 since the rear seat backs are so upright - even more so in a cab. So not great for long haul, but no problems for the school run and short trips out and about.

All - after searching forums for ages to figure out what group 1 car seats fit in the back of 997 (coupe), I went to our local Halfords and tried out a few. The guy there was super helpful. I can happily confirm, that the Maxi Cosi Tobi fits perfectly. See image attached.

Doesn't the targa have the different bulkhead of the cabrio?

Nope. Or certainly bloody hope not, and was one of the the 'appeals'. It has the Coupe bulkhead / rear seats.
Not like the Canvas roof crowd wink
That would make sense, I may be getting confused with the 993? If memory serves that was simply a cabrio with a targa hardtop fitted on top.

Difficult to tell from that photo, but I'm sure you know best-you own the car after all! If they don't have the bolt upright seat backs it must be different-you learn something new every day smile

Lovely versions of the 911 those targas are, as well as the nice light interior the silver highlight along the roof line just looks so right.

So ive just recently moved my 2.5 year old daughter from rear passenger side to behind me in the drivers seat. She is currently in the maxi cosi tobi but it is a bit of a tight squeeze for both of us and im not that tall, does anyone have experience of fitting the britax duo plus to the rear of a 996 coupe and/or a 997 cab (future proofing here).

Cheers

Chris

Halfords own brand were the only ones that fitted my 997.2 C4 GTS, £30 a pop. Spent a long time trawling the web prior to buying to ensure my 4 and 5 year olds will fit. Both are pretty tall for their ages and fit well. I reckon I will get a few years out of the car!

Law changes at later this year stating you need high back seats so these fit the bill perfectly. I think the law is for them being on sale not in use.

IMHO the Halfords one look pretty OEM to me, I have also removed the vecro seat underneath.

Hopefully future owners will find this useful.

I used Halfords to find a seat that fitted the CGTS, bloody brilliant they were.

It turns out that the seat sold by Porsche, £400?, are available in the brand that actually makes them and some of these also fit, £250.

Remember that the rules and regs on these things have just changed in recent months.

I know one of the changes means boosters have to have a back on them as shown above.

Just bumping this to see if anything much has changed in the last year with new car seat models etc?

Also, re the cheap Halfords ones I notice the pics on this thread have them in a 996 cabrio. Does anyone run them in the 996 coupes? how is the height adjustment in terms of C pillar etc?

Basically my kids are 7 (today!) and 4. The they are 115 and 110cm respectively and just trying to work out what is going to fit that will allow the best height adjustment as they grow, obviously with fit and safety being important too.
