Motec 964 Turbo
Discussion
Oh, and one thing I should say. With all this talk of BHP, lets not forget Mother torque. Have a quick look in the back pages of an old EVO mag and see what sort of cars are generating more than 460 ft/lbs of torque and given the T2 is geared to 220mph it's unlikely you'll be resorting to BHP trying to redline 5th.
Who, am I kidding, or course you'll be trying, bugger

Wonderful stuff, UV. And well done to Mr B for screwing the bugger together.
Just a quick thought - would a Turbo 4 lump have been an easy and quicker route to the bhp? Can't you lift the 3.3 lump out and drop the tt engine in?
ATB and look forward to a Brunters run... 8 secs 0-100 sounds very exciting

993 turbo lump is:
a) typically £7000-£8000 in used condition
b) physically bigger and will not fit the available space easily
c) equipped with the World's most difficult ecu to map
d) has a bottom end made from monkey metal
Let's just say that Richard Chamberlain's Open Race domineering ballistic missile is powered by a 930 lump on Motec, so if it is good enough for Tricky it's good enough for me (I'm sure UV will agree with me here). In any case, if any 993tt owner sampled the blue beast they would be selling their engines and fitting one of these instead, it now outperforms the TT engine in every department and uses one less turbo to perform its task.
Stick to RS's Dom, you (reputedly) know a bit about those!

The engine cost nothing, it was in the car already.
As for budget, I spent nothing but time (thanks James!).
W.r.t the 993TT/930 comparison, once we get new cams and pistons into UV's engine you will be looking at a comfortable 550-600bhp, whereas the 993TT engine at this level will be on a knife edge in terms of reiabiity, it is just nowhere near as strong a starting point as the 930 mill. Which is probably part of the reason why Porsche stopped making them....
Like I said earlier on, it is a shame that we are unlikely to do more Motec 930/965 conversions due to the cost, but UV's road rocket is far better off as a result of making this decision and resisting this "soft" option.

LOL, and what are you doing mucking around with lard-arsed turbos anyway I hope you recommended that removing the shagpile and dead cow lazyboy recliners would be the equivalent of another 50bhp
Sounds like James has made Warrington his second home. I hope Mrs9M had some scones spare after Iguana cleared you out last time.

The missus has indeed restocked with scones.....
Hmmm scones

...but we are still saving up for the cheese-on-toast, tea, fruit cake, Hob-Nobs, chocolate digestives, shortcake, etc, etc, etc.
Come on porkerphilles- spend money at 9M's so he can re-stock the larder for my next visit
Thanks for the comments guys.
OK, a couple of points.
1) Interior will be RS style. Not sure whether to go for the carbon stuff or not though. Although, this comes a poor second to the mechanical stuff (just more interesting).
2) On the cost side, if i'm and everyone else, is honest, it would have been much more sensible to have traded in for another car. But there would have been zero fun in doing that. It just so happens by the time you get to 650bhp, it's actually cost effective. But again, who cares? Not me.
3) I actually think you could do a quite cost effective conversion on a 930. Say your target was 450bhp, it would probably come in only slightly more expensive than the standard micro fueller approach. Remember I had some body work done and bought parts that will only be used once we get above 550 bhp.
4)Motec is bloody great. I am, and will, spend more time messing with maps than actually driving the car. In fact on top of the list is a whole host of new sensors to monitor just about everything.

stupid question and probably sacrilige to you Porsche boys but.
UV would something like racelogic traction control with lauch control help with your 0-100 times? after all you can always turn it off after you have got going
Does anuone know if a racelogic type system hase been fitted to a car like this?
