Long tracts for low/med revs, short for high revs - its tuning of the resonant frequency, so high revs = hi frequency = short pipe. Thing of the long pipes = bass of a pipe organ.

964s had two stage resonance tuning, 993 VRam is 3 stage.

Thanks for getting my pipe lengths around the right way!
I have found a good article /explanation on vario ram from the 993RS teknic manual. I will see if i can scan it later and post on here. And yes resonance seems to be the key part.
Interesting one on induction/power, on the 964 rs club forum section, Ray boyd has just posted his power from a fresh engine remap via motec and mild tune of the standard rs at 350bhp and 420nm.Thats good i think!
