Erm... there is no oil dipstick in a 997!! It's the electronic readout or nothing.

out of interest - how accurate is the digital oil gauge at startup? Because that always reads well, i havent bothered checking the dipstick.
Gag or serious?confused

serious...

truth is I checked the dipstick once a couple of weeks ago

(remember, ive only had the car 3 weeks!)
The digital gauge doesnt read until the engine is hot..so on start up?

eh?

On my car, when I twist the key to 'on' (so electrics on, not starting the engine) I get a countdown of 5 secs - which then shows an oil level.

it dissapears once the engine is running and is replaced by the clock...
Correct. It's VERY accurate yes
It must be different on the high performance engines.

Really??

Fair do's - haven't had a good poke around a 997 yet but don't like the sounds of that though

True. Couldn't quite believe it at first. Relying on the electronic readout is not the most comforting feeling in the world..
