The current issue of Total 911 has a feature on all 3 of the 4-wheel-drive generations of 911 Turbo - 993, 996 and 997

I reckon that a lot of the good 993tt's are just not coming to market. People like em too much, they're a good asset and they haven't found anything better to replace them with.

I'm a bit surprised by the answers to this thread .. are all the avid 996tt owners on mid-term!? ..

Before I give a completely biased opinion , let me say I've driven neither so I'm to be discounted completely .. BUT..

The 996 is a better looking more modern looking , sleeker looking car .. I'm just not into perilously balanced bbq grills on car tails..
It's engine and turbos are reputed to be bulletproof ,just as the 993's are , but made even more-so by the fact that its minimum 3 years younger than the youngest equivalent 993.
It's supposedly much more user friendly as an everyday car.
It has a modern dash .. Sorry , cognoscenti , but my nose wrinkles subconsciously every time I peer into a pre 996 cockpit.
It's ongoing costs / servicing are way down on the 993 , as are the intervals (These things actually matter to us mere mortals)
And of course it's got more room on the inside , someone like me , heading into the deep ravages of a midlife crises , can appreciate , especially when there's kids to be transported on an hourly basis.

So there you go ... Musings of the one of the great unwashed ... Funnily enough , there's a lot of us around......

Trust me i'm a mere mortal, and i don't think that's true.
A 993tt 12k service is £210, 24k service is £450, clutch is £900

How does that compare to 996tt prices?

I must have duff info but I was told the interval was 6000 miles on the 993tt .. Is this not the case?

I also saw figures from the opc which put the service prices well over the 996 prices.. I don't have the luxury of indies in Ireland , so I don't know how they'd compare..

Pretty much ignore journalists and the 993 mafia on here! Drive both and then make your choice. I'd personally look at buying a manual 996TT X50 (I'm biased). Anyone who can say it's a boring car probably sticks closely to speed limits and has never seen one being put through it's paces around Europe or cross country at daybreak!

If we all liked the same cars the world would be an awfully dull place...

Flattered VS, only the Porsche and the bike are in London, but I have plans to bring the Lancia down here soon, once I have some new carbs (Don't ask. Nightmare!)

www.northwayporsche.co.uk/car_sales/car.asp?ModelName=911%2BAircooled

I do like the look of the C2's on this page! An abundance of spoilers which is unusual! While having never driven a C2, i have heard it is a "purer" experience. Am tempted, but I think I might miss the lack of punch coming from a Porsche Turbo...what do you think VS? You've owned the lot (jealous!).

If your 944t is standard you won't miss the punch in a stock n/a 993, in fact if you get a non vario 993 (earlier one) you will still get a slight kick as it comes on cam (which is why they sometimes feel faster than later cars).

Real world, very little difference between C2 and C4 to drive, ditto C2S, but C4S is quite a bit different, then comes the turbo (which is a 4S with HUGE torque and no noise), then comes the RS which is MUCH more tactile and communicative.

Come out this way and i'll give you a lift to Northways on the back roads...
