It's a sympathetic hormonal reaction.

The same people, when they reach 50, buy cardigans and subscribe to Saga.

It's a hormonal reaction.

The mother is going through pregnancy and child birth and insists that the father must be prevented from ever doing anything other than being a subservient provider ever again, including going out with his friends, drinking beer or talking to any woman. He must trade in his speedy chariot for a diesel MPV so that he doesn't have any fun or attract any interest from other females."

That particular one seems to have managed to loose some of it's Q-car charm. It was more the context of it being sat at what I thought looked like a V-max day or similar that attracted me to it.

Never am I likely to own a Porsche, but I'm sure having children causes most people to reflect on what they have, what they need, what state their finances are in etc.

OH shit we'll be poor (and they usually are) is the normal reaction

When my wife was pregnant I sold a perfectly good 1.1 B reg fiesta car derived van with rear side windows and a GL interior, and bought a D reg 1.6 Cavalier GL Hatch. (It was 14 years ago)

I know people who have bought 750 cc superbikes when finding out the wife was pregnant (in order to commute faster!!??) and others that bought Picasso's.

Yeah, but we all know Porsche ownership is more rewarding than children, so you get what you pay for.

Errrm. Don't think so. Each one of the little dears will cost significantly more than a decent Ferrari. You just don't spend it all at once!

I had an extensive shopping process for 3 + seats in a sports car I could get exited about. M5's/M3's etc were all considered, but it had to be a 996TT. Fast, safe, room for three. Never any issues on capacity - although never tried a buggy in it.

My daughter was 18 months when I bought it, and it has seen 4 touring holidays since then. Careful packing required but no issues. Think it would be different with two kids though.

I considered changing it last year and nearly sold it, but could not find anything better. Still can't. I have now had the car longer than any 'fun car' I have ever owned.

McLaren F1 maybe ?

No, its a good excuse for the other half to make you get rid of that car that you lavish all your time and effort on.

A 996 C2 is pretty practical, just not as easy as our 5 door MK4 Golf.

New years day 'we' (missus, 13 month old and I) went to friends for a sleep over (both can drink and baby sleeps all night).

Anyway, our friends hadn't seen the new car so we took my car not the Golf.

I fitted the following in the 996:

Front boot:
Quinny Zap (goes in first right to the bottom, foot muff goes behind the spare wheel)
Graco travel cot (Just fits, but looks like it would never in a million fit!)
Handysitt high chair (fits onto a normal dining room chair)

Rear seats:
Bebe Confort Isois TT (not a brilliant fit and moves from side to side a little, but not going anywhere fast and I have the Porsche Junior Seat for when he puts on a couple more pounds)
Changing bag
3 carrier bags of Xmas presents
Our over night bag
2 carrier bags with towels/dressing gowns (for hot tub fun)
1 box of Pinot Grigio
1 crate stella
2 bottles champers

We all had a great New Years and we managed to get all the little fellas xmas presents in for the return trip.

All of this and without the luggage obscuring one window ! or looking like hillbilly's moving house.

The 911 is a fantastly practical super car, but I wouldn't want to do it everyday.

Any 2WD 911 can be used as a "family car" for 3 people, four is tricky apparently. The challenge is minimal packing rather than "pack the car until it is full". You can always get another one in a few years

Reckon classic car club (old street) is good value - especially if you already live in london.

Waint until your kids are older for more challenges. My daughter is nearly 15 will not fit into 911 coupe so we had to buy a sensible four seater.

I'm happy my kids are appreciating with age faster than an old cavalier. (I suppose old 911's are on the up again ?)

Certainly was joyous and just about offset my TT disappointment. The £1000 I have spare each month could finace my TT purchase / servicing etc. When a nursery costs £1400 per month in my neck of the woods it requires some budget re-evaluation!

pwafer - thanks for the glimmer of hope - unfortunately the only 4 seat 996s I like are 4S and TT which make you packing olympics much harder.
