Thanks Slippy,
It all looks very familiar LOL

Its really nice up close, just not £100k nice.
The most impressive thing was the engine compared to mine, and the work needed to prep it like that.

Looks superb in VG SM, are you tempted by a cheaper one ?
I appreciate they're rare as hens teeth, custom built from a bare shell and rightly acclaimed for being so quick (even by todays standards) but even the red car (which I saw in the flesh at PCGB a few years ago and it looked fantastic) at circa £65K seems a lot when compared against a 996 GT2?

Adam, the article doesn't sing the cars praises from a handling and braking point of view. Are they really that poor, or is it just that the modern cars are so accomplished in comparison ?

I think modern cars (996/997) handle in a very different way. Neither is better, they just suite different needs. In comparison to our 996 ruf the ctr is a much more visceral "real" experience. In terms of say outright lap times etc, I find im much much faster with the new car than the CTR.

Partly because in the CTR you are afraid you could stuff into the barriers at any moment. And also because you have to be Herr Roser or Schumacher to extract its potential.

Having said that, I cant think of another better motoring nirvana moment than bombing around the deserted german counrty lanes in the summer in the ctr.

Im not sure why they found this CTR not as accomplished, i havent read the article, but it could be perhaps becuase this car was setup for trackdays. EVO loved mine...

all the best
adam

993'S feel a bit lardy with the dual mass flywheel, however Ive got my eye on a silver 95 Carrera, 2 owner that needs a clutch. If Im lucky enough to get it, Ill put an RS clutch and flywheel in it, thats the best mod for them Ive heard.

A friend has a Ruf cab thats in body prep, Ill see if he'll let me take some jpegs and put them up.

RS LWF and clutch well worthwhile if you're replacing the clutch. My 993 RS was supplied from the factory with the dual mass flywheel, fitting the lightweight version made the engine and car feel so much more responsive.

Your friends RUF Cab isn't Tahoe blue is it ?

The standard of research in all the Porsche (and I guess other marque) magazines leaves something to be desired, they are particularly bad when they discuss the motorsports heritage of the company. Check the current GT purely Porsche, on page 46 theres a picture that is purported to be of the 908s flat eight, strange the photo clearly has 12 cylindres and the uniquie central cooling fan of a 917 motor.

hehehehe I really need to get out more. I saw that too.......hehehehe

Are you serious LA?
Sorta. I think you'll find a lot of auto mags less than scrupulous about accuracy even if keen to get the facts right. Are many edited by engineers? Probably more by informed enthusiasts. We need a magzine entitled auto mechanic for that. After all, engineers are getting on with designing cars and engines and suspension sytems to have time to edit a magazine.

I just thought that an enthusiasts magazine written by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, might have been a little more accurate.

Whilst a magazine like Evo may not be accurate in everything it says, it seems to get it right more of the time than a lot of the specialist magazines.

Adam, Nick H was quite candid and said his car didn't go round corners that well, and he also gave the impression the brakes were poor.

I agree about the old Vs new, my 964RS was a lot more visceral than the GT2 and you always felt more involved in the process of drivng (a lot moreso than in the newer cars)

Might it be Maraschino red.
