Looking to Buy my first 996
Discussion
The RMS thing sounds very much like the K-series problem with the Elise that was caused by a seal on the gasket having a rubber seal, Hmmmmmmm
Last query........I hope.
1.Can the RMS fault return if the car i buy has already had the fix/treatment?
2.How much would it cost with and without the car being under warranty?
3.How easy is it spot? I dont want to visit my local garage everytime my driveway has some form of stain?
4.Is it true that 5% of 996's have had the problem
Thanks again guys, either way i think i am taking the plunge anyway but i just want to know what type of things to look out for and what questions i should be asking as more and more non-performance car garages seem to have 911's among there stock and may not have a clue what they are actually selling.

YES, BUT I HAD MINE DONE UNDER WARRANTY AND IT HASN'T COME BACK AFTER TWO YEARS AND 35,000 MILES
2.How much would it cost with and without the car being under warranty?
ABOUT £1000 AT OPC, COVERED BY WARRANTY SO F.O.C.
3.How easy is it spot? I dont want to visit my local garage everytime my driveway has some form of stain?
IT'S USUALLY JUST A SWEAT. IF IT DRIPS IT'S ONE DROP EVERY NOW AND THEN. YOU CAN JUST LEAVE IT.
4.Is it true that 5% of 996's have had the problem
WHO KNOWS.

Think it costs about £500 at an Indy, won't kill the car anyway. Had mine done twice, both under warranty, plus I got a new clutch (and the car valeted) for £300.
Drove it all over Europe with it leaking, and with the OPC's blessing.
ditto
and its still sweating.......

didn't like to mention it the last time we met
The RMS is no big deal - not catastrophic and not expensive to fix. A spontaneous engine failure (albeit a very small chance of that happening) is more urgent and why its best to have a warrantee or a spare £12K behind the sofa.
As a seasoned 996 owner of 4 and a half days I can tell you they are bl00dy marvelous !!
Get a nice one, get a warrantee, have fun.
