Is it because of the added weight of the hybrid systems thingys, as I assume the P1 "just" uses a conventional thermal engine ?
At least the added weight seems to be very low down which shouldn't penalise it too much in terms of COG height.
I wonder if all the environmental benefits are absorbed by the added weight though ?
I could be wrong but I don't think anyone knows for certain what the P1 will be running? However them publicly stating that their target weight it 1300kg is pretty bold.At least the added weight seems to be very low down which shouldn't penalise it too much in terms of COG height.

Again with the Ferrari F70, no one is really too sure what it'll have? They've said that for every 1kg of extra weight it must deliver an extra 1bhp. Last years prototype added 100kg so it's assumed it'll be less now (car magazine says 90kg to deliver 100bhp & 110lb ft of torque).
Interestingly though the added weight offsets the need for a conventional battery & starter motor on the Ferrari as it uses the gearbox mounted motor for that.
However the Ferrari will only have an electric range of 2km, so it's not playing on the same field as the porsche.
But still, 1660kg for a hypercar? Sounds like a lot to me.

Last year I was working on the new lotus esprit and the target weight for that was 1250kg, didn't happen though did it!!!!1300kg is not realistic for a modern supercar, the carrera gt weighed 1380kg and crash regs have come a long way since then, don't see the P1 being any lighter than that.
1660kg is pretty light for the 918 with all the hybrid tech, the 458italia weights around that.
918 should be immense, would love to have a quick drive in one.
Fantastically irrelevant car!
It's nice that it's got the block out of the RS Spyder but to be honest I'd rather a CGT and change or CGT and 4.0RS and 911 Turbo S...
Oh and before anybody says it I know that's not the point as the 918 is an uber rich persons plaything and the likelihood is that actual owners could probably own all the current exotica put together.

Standout features for me from the brochure are :
Semi-adjustable buckets
Estoril blue paint an option.
I hope both make it to the new GT3.
Lets just do some fag-packet maths.
3 Yr residual = £320k, Deposit £180k, £10,648 per month for 36 months.
Yep - I need a lottery win or play in a Premier League team. I think winning lottery has shorter odds.

Should've just built a more powerful engine and dumped all the heavy, trendy, pointless battery/motor stuff. Would've saved 200kg+ straightway. Same for the Macca P1.
Electric propulsion and KERs has it's place, but not on ultimate once a decade hypercars. Who gives a crap about fuel consumption on £500k-£800k cars?

As for the weight thing I'd agree that with all the technology packed into the car it probably is pretty light, but it obviously begs the question, why does it need all that technology & would it have been a better car without it?

The question is when the first aftermarket petrol-only conversions will come out...Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
