Remember the 928 saga - they can and do get it wrong now and again!
I'm just not sure about auto/tip in a GT3 and the smiley face as you look at the front end!!!
Anyway I'm sure it will be a fantastic driving machine as usual!

I think the manual is dead. The PDK transmission is so good why does a manual make sense on track? on the road it prolly does but if you extricate enough performance out of the car, you are already way over the speed limit in a manual. Instead a PDK Gt3 that allows one to drive sensibly on the road and give the required speed on track should be a no-brainer.
On track, the speed brings focus and excitement and challenge. I dun see any of that diminishing unless you are not driving properly or fast enough.

Sadly, the great majority of new car buyers have your view. They don't want mechanical interaction, they want layers of electronics to do it for them.

Flat shift sequentials (not PDF) are fine in racing cars. It's quicker on a lap By about a second over a h pattern and if it helps me to win that's fine with me. Porsche probably will stick to a PDK in the new GT3 because it gives the option of shorter gearing and more gears which is all important ( along with a host of electronic driving aids) in the utterly pointless holy grail (in my humble opinion) of a quick ring time. Strap me in a Racing car with the right bits on it and I win you a race. In racing, my buzz has always been the win. All racing drivers are the same. On the road and on track days my buzz is in the engagement and pure fun of the drive. In a road car or trackday car, give me a manual every time.

There is a lot of difference between an automatic and a paddle shift manual like a PDK. The "interaction" still exists in a modified form. Instead of dipping and re-engaging the clutch, up and down changes are lightning fast with a perfect blip on down changes to boot. Its not remotely like the auto box experience of old and has lots going for it.Sadly, the great majority of new car buyers have your view. Personally I found the PDK with those silly b...y thumb levers in a 991 C2S a little unemotional. Proper paddles and a little play with the software should result in something closer to the box in a GTR which is a fantastic , thrilling companion when you're going for it.

Maybe they will change the software on the PDK to make it even sharper for the GT3?
I have had my name down for a 991 GT3 for about two and a half years. Will I buy one if it is PDK only? I really can't decide yet.
For everybody who will cut me down and say 'paddle boxes are the future blah blah' let me say this, the GT3 is no longer a track orientated car. It is the car all 911s should be, an everyday sports car. I'm using my current one everyday and in no way is it a compromise, it is a sports car. If you want a track car buy a Caterham. Much more fun, quicker round a track and much cheaper to run.
The problem with modern sports cars is that they are unbelievable quick and capable, and a paddle box makes life even easier. At least with a manual you can play around, heel and toe and generally be a bit more involved. I'm not really interested if the new GT3 is .4 seconds blah blah quicker with paddles, 98% of people who buy them can't get more than 60% of the capability out of the car anyway. I just sold a Scuderia, it made a great noise (although a bit obnoxious around town) but was pretty non-involving unless you were going above 85% of the cars capability, which was far too quick for the road. A manual GT3 is fun to drive at almost any speed.
Porsche, please give the next GT3 a manual option.
A lot of people will disagree with me and say that all other cars are paddles now (McLaren, Ferrari etc.), but frankly most of them are boring to drive and made for posers who like to pretend they can drive quickly (when was the last time you so somebody in a Ferrari who could really drive?). I've tried some of them, and come back to a GT3. Most probably for the foreseeable future.
