I think i know why its worse. Using the forums takes longer and involves more clicking.

Its a faff.

Haven't been here for a while. But the Porsche forum was the best on the net. I used to post everyday. Looking at it now...what a mess!! Put it back.

What's the benefit of the split forum to the user. There's just not that many posts. We've gone from one reasonably busy forum to 5 quiet ones. Back to 1 please!

Have only been looking at the General forum anyway, so turn it back into one big bucket for all things pork.

I have advocated a single forum on every occasion it has been discussed. My view remains the same.

I look at a single page now, the Porsche General page. I don't look at individual sub forums so any technical help I might have been able to offer will have been lost to those sections.

There is simply too much cross over to break it up. Boxsters & Caymans share technical issues with 911s. Owners of 911s often have Cayennes, owners of newer cars often have older cars in the garage, people doing a track day in a GT share the Tarmac with more mundane Porsches.

By all means have a separate forum to discuss which curtain fabric best compliments the latest range of BHS chenille toilet surround drip mats but keep the Porsches together.

What he said.

Oh by the way, Henry, can you post a link to the drip mat forum as it sounds quite useful...

Just for balance, aside from Jeremy C, is there anyone who likes the recent changes?

nono I didn't say I either liked or disliked the changes, just that it made no difference to my browsing of the forums. smile

A question for the detractors/naysayers: given the poor search facility in the forums, is it not a benefit to be able to find advice relating to one model family in one place? For example, if you are looking for advice on changing a Boxster brake light bulb, would it not be easier to only have to look through a Boxster/Cayman subsection rather than the whole Porsche forum?

I think it seems to appeal more to the non-Porsche owners. tongue out

Well you appear to be the only advocate of it so far.

I thought it would have been seen as a benefit to the entire site to fix the search function rather than carve up this forum to enable people to trawl through pages of model specific posts to find the answer to their query.

I don't like the split either, its unnecessary. Please return to a single forum.

Turn that argument on it's head. Why should the owner of a 996 be able to look at the 996 forum to find info on his engine, but the Boxster owner have to look on a different forum for info on the same engine? Do we have to duplicate threads on different, but related, models?

There are already dedicated forums for all the models, easy to find and free to use in most cases. We don't need yet more dilution of the knowledge and advice from the community, there's too much already.

It's not that the new format is impossible to use, it's just not quite as easy or instinctive as before. These days, if you make something more complicated people simply won't use it.
