Neither did I - off to check the manual. Andreas implied this was new for the GT3 as the PDK could not do it.

If it's the same thing the Boxster does it too.

I'm intrigued by the clutch dipping feature, operated by pulling both paddles.

This is so that you can provoke oversteer?
That's what he said - if you want to kick out the back end it is hard with the PDK so they introduced this feature!
My 991 does it. Nothing new there.
Ok, I didn't know that!
Yes but it doesn't work in the same way. Yes you can pull both paddles to put it in neutral but if you are at standstill you have to touch the brake to get it to select 1st and then it will start to pull off once the revs/computer decide its safe to and if you do it at speed/rolling speed the pdk will select the gear it thinks best and gently bring it in. The GT3 option sounds like you can literally just disengage and engage at will i.e. leaving the lights at 9000rpm without launch control....... Now that would be interesting biggrin

  • and now it finally has the stick functioning the correct way*

The PDK is clearly the way forward.
Plenty choice in manuals from all the previous generations. Money no object I'd have a 991 GT2/3 RS and an old air cooled manual, pretty sure plenty of people who can afford it think the same?

Can't wait for JP to review this and Wonder if he'll use the same phrase "It's a proper piece of kit!! Proper piece of kit!!"

Yes, I have just checked, the double paddle pull puts the transmission into neutral and at lower speeds it then requires application of the brake and a fully released throttle to re-engage. At higher speeds it will then decide which gear it wants.

What the GT3 seems to do is declutch, which is very different.

I tend to use it quite a lot at standstill and traffic lights. The sympathetic side to me says that its better for the car as opposed to constantly be pulling at the drivetrain

Any ideas of numbers - will it be limited like the 996 and 997.1 or more freely available like the 7.2?

Available to order from today - anyone got their deposit down?
Yep I laid £5k down on 6th Feb to get myself in the queue as if you decide you don't want it when launched they will give it back to you....Back then I was full of brave words such as 'no manual gearbox, I'm out', no mezger engine, I'm out' as I love my GT3 MK2 and wanted modern version of the same. But believe me those were hollow words and 110% I'm in and gonna spec mine with special slate grey 'Steve McQueen 911' paint, PCCB, clubsport package and possibly the front lift system as I have this grim speed bump at the end of my road and driveway on a diffent angle that scrapes everytime I get the turning angle slightly wrong.. LHD as well and most definately the option to collect it from factory myself...I live in Europe most of time and so this will be my summertime autobahn and trackday toy... I shall update how the ordering process goes (probably at about 9.05am today!!)...

What was your estimated delivery by getting in the queue in Feb?

Need to decide where to order if from as I hate my local OPC with a passion.

They didn't give me one as they weren't 100% sure when it will be launched when I handed over my card.
As I want a LHD and to colelct from Germany I would guess end of summertime...we will see!
The dealership was so uninterested was unbelievable. Actually 1st time I have ever been in one.
So now my opinion is that OPC's really are a waste of time but where else can I get one? No passion whatsoever, just a sales job! Might as well be selling a £15k hatch. I've been sourcing all my used Porsche from Williams Crawford down in Cornwall and they really look after me like no car dealer I have ever known...
