I'v had a deposit down on a BMW M4 GTS for quite some time and the first to place a order with my dealer but iv been told it will NOT be first come first serve, after sending in a list of BMW's i'v owned past and present the 30 UK cars allocated BMW will decide who will get one....!
Understand people have been interviewing depositers? Probably a good thing if it's to stop people flipping them. Can't understand why anyone would want one though; it's not like the M3 GTS was worth the money and this one looks even worse to look at. I honestly think i could have designed a better car.
Whilst we're all bashing Porsche...
OPC sold me a GT3 last year - reg YG07 MBK. Thought they had forgotten to give me a service book but it turned out it didn't have one! It took about 6 months to get it sorted to find it had patchy history and didn't have a warranty, despite the impression i had been given. I just found it bizarre they sold me the car thinking there would be no repercussions... in the end they bought back for what i paid for it, but ultimately i lost out as it had a full front respray under my stewardship, correction detailing and mods (which i then had to put back to OE).
Naturally, they have simply bunged on another £10k to the price.

Well, having been knocked back for a GT4 originally (no prior purchases from this dealer etc etc) I got a slot in the end through hard work, effort and an understanding dealership I guess. It can happen. Whilst the way most operate is disappointing, I do wonder how likely the claimant would have been to claim if prices of the RS4.0 had dropped instead of appreciate!
As for Porsche GB, some of you guys are giving them too much credit, they work out of a back office at Reading OPC, have no power over decisions in Germany, don't allocate the UK cars per customer or dealer, and have little control over anything the dealerships do!

Oh Colchester! I'm not surprised at all! I had fun and games when buying my GTS with them as they are my local dealer, in the end I bought mine from Bournemonth who have been excellent to deal with. I've been told by them in order to be considered for a GT3 (991.2) they require a 10K deposit from me but that still wont guarantee me the car.

Doesn't seem unreasonable given the demand for these cars - certainly stops people trying to register with multiple dealers, to help weed out the non genuine clients who are most interesting in flipping their allocations...I've been told by them in order to be considered for a GT3 (991.2) they require a 10K deposit from me but that still wont guarantee me the car.
I expect that they will simply modify the deposit agreement so that you can put down a deposit to be considered, no guarantee. They can write contract language to protect themselves, and will be much more careful about any emails etc. In Canada where I live they do NOT promise you a car. Deposits are non recourse, and the only time they promise you will get a car is when they have a production number for it.
Evidently earlier depositors may get priority, but it is not strictly sequential. A regular customer who has had multiple cars and gets the car maintained at the dealership , AND who puts down a deposit will be more likely to get a car. People who flip cars for a quick profit generally have no chance of the next one, and for the rare cars you sign a contract not to flip for a year anyway. All academic for me as I do not flip, but they try to prevent it.

As per my post above, I don't think the current contract guarantees anything - the big issue in this case was the email to the customer.Evidently earlier depositors may get priority, but it is not strictly sequential. Exactly... and in reality it's not even a 10% deposit..! When I purchased the i8 I had to sign a disclaimer to say it was not my intention to sell it for commercial gain...!
I only placed a £3k deposit on my GT3 - sufficient to demonstrate to the dealer that I was a serious purchaser, 18 months ahead of launch. When I was at the 991.2 launch at my favourite OPC I was flat told I would not get a GT3RS if I ordered one, as the wrong type of person (my words but clearly the sentiment).
So I had a turbo which I used for a year or so and had two services there, then a GT2 which I still have 8 or maybe 9 years on, always been in there every year, have done around 4k miles a year and always an enthusiastic driver / fan. So a completely loyal customer for over 10 years.
I'd quite like to switch for a new RS but I can't. Instead someone will likely get the RS, they'll do 20 miles over a couple of months and sell it on to another collector who'll speculate again.
It's fine I don't resent the way people speculate on cars, I've done all right on my GT2 I suppose in theory, but I don't like this BS from the OPC about vetting folks based on how many new cars they've bought in the past. These people are less likely to be what most people would consider an "enthusiast" but instead are more likely to be massive sources of ££££££££, they should be honest about it.
IMHO
