Porsche customer service is a joke..the lady i spoke to didnt know the difference between a crankcase and a tyre.....i asked to speak to technical they said i cannot speak to technical as they dont deal with the public....the engine rebuild was so they say the crankcase was leaking....it really is a joke..Porsche have now said rebuild the engine again...leeds OPC agree with me service guy and mechanics - this will not rectify the problem but porsche have told them to simply rebuild it again ...3 weeks later with less than a thousand miles - absolute bizarre....i have instructed them not to rebuild the motor as it NEEDS CRANKCASES..i have now had to go to Andy Goss...M.D. for porsche GB cars....will let you know the outcome.
Given the time you've spent on this so far, is there any good reason why you haven't trucked it over to an OPC in Germany to get the work done properly? I'd imagine you'd get this done properly first time, and that if it is indeed a known problem, they'd sort it out with no cost to you.

As Bigfish says, you're wasting your time with Goss and co.

If it's anything like my ongoing problems with my E39 M5 and it's infuriating intermittent misfire, the warranty arrangements may not be transferrable to the German dealer network. I was in Germany last month when it started playing up again, and went to a local dealership, who charged me for the work done. The dealer in the UK have agreed to cover the cost (of just a couple of hundred quid) on a goodwill basis. If I'd had an engine rebuild or a swap, I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting refunded unless it was agreed up front by BMW UK. In the end these "manufacturer" warranties are actually third-party products (from XL in the case of Porsche's current offering) being resold by the national subsidiaries of the manufacturers. And besides, if you've got a non-OEM tax disc holder the Porsche warranty is invalid anyway, so I hear wink

Hi, Getting a 997 GT3 RS very soon. It too has leaky RMS. Where would anyone recommend to have it done under warranty. It is coming from Glasgow and I am down in Notts. Has anyone had the RMS replaced and it has worked, or is it a new engine? Also, has anyone actually measured the crankcase bore to crankshaft surface, to see if they are concentric?
Can`t wait to get the beast, but realise I am going to have a bit of grief with this RMS thing. Is this just part of GT3 ownership?
Cheers.

2skiddy,

it's been going on for years ... I thought the 'GT' block did not have the problems ..

This is a thread asking about the 997 ... RMS seems to be carried over each model ..

Also now they are moving to Direct Injection .... watch the intake valves carbon up ...

My 7GT3 had the RMS replaced at service last year.

I wasn't aware of any oil leak but the OPC said that it was damp and the factory had a new design which they would fit, and would be a permanent fix, and it's fine.

That's really funny .... a few years ago my 996 C4 had yet another RMS leak and I was told the 'new' 997 double seal RMS would be a permanent fix ......

bad luck samba. if it doesnt work id offload it. get a gt2.
on a note of the cause of the leak, dry sump systems create a slight vacumn in the crankcase via the scavenge pump, so if you had a pipework problem / pump problem leaks usually occur from the seals at the lowest point. perhaps a rebuild with all new oil system would be in order.

If it doesn't affect anything else I'd have it repaired at the nearest OPC, purely for convenience.

Am I missing something. OP website suggests he deals in porsche's. Does this mean he actually has limited knowledge about these cars that he deals in or does not have contacts in the trade that could advise him?

in reply to MOJO...i have more contacts in porsche than what you would believe..they have come up with what i said in the first place..there could be a issue with the crankcases...im not actually going to pay for someone like JWB @ malton to sort it for me when ive just put a extended warrenty on the car at a cost of £1,250....its porsche's problem and will expect them to solve this once and for all...the car is now back with me..leak free.....will let you all know what its like in a thousand miles or so......

Bloody ell I find this astonishing In the extreme, even by Porsche standards. It's Interesting because so many people have huge debates about the merits of running older 911's on a daily basis, mainly due to reliability/age fears. I have one or two older 911's Including a late 89 930, which could be used daily without any Issue In my opinion. I recall certain foke on here (thread somewhere) saying you can't run one on a day to day basis. My argument was as long as you start off with one In fine fettle, with no Issues and take care of It..why not!? Makes you wonder If It's the new stuff that's a weekend/occasional use sort of car really.

Anyway Ime going of the subject somewhat. I do hope you get what both you, and the car deserve and Porsche do the right thing for you ultimatley.
This comes as a bit of a shock to me and even though I ran a new 997 S for 2 years with no Issues, Its put me off the only modern 911s that apealed to me, ie the 997 GT3/RS. Think I'le be sticking to the older 80s and late 90s stuff. Again best of luck.
