It's not quite a simple as that. If you set the car up for maximin grip at each end it's unlikely to have a balance and so will default to either oversteer or understeer. If it defaults to oversteer - as a rule - grip will need to be taken away from the front end to find a balance. If it defaults to understeer, the driver may be able to drive around it if the balance isnt too bad and the diff is set up properly.
Mine feels balanced with the rear bar set to stiff.

hence why I like at least 2 way dampers to fine tune the balance.

I find it odd Porsche GT cars have these PASM things.

2 ways give you 3 easy set ups for road, track and wet. some settings a bit softer and some more forgiving depending if you wanted over or understeer.

On my Exige I used to soften the rebound in the rear if it were a bit wet.

Also under steer in the wet is not fun one bit. but in the dry you base the car to understeer 1st.

Porsche GT cars offer none of this fine tuning .
Porsche GT cars are for those like me who want a brilliant fast road car that you can set and forget and drive to track days. PASM makes it a better road car and adaptable to the track with the push of a button. If you are a tinkerer then it's up to you to modify it or buy a more narrowly focussed track car.

I am new to this forum. My build slot is not confirmed but I am told to expect December. I suspect that I am not an unusual prospective GT4 owner - I like the very occasional track day but will spend most of my time with the GT4 on the road. I am over 50 and enjoying my crisis. This is the first non 911 I will have owned, except for a 928GT back in the early 90s. Having read this forum I was full of trepidation about the gearing and under steer when I had my PEC day - in the black car. I ordered the GT4 wanting something special, smaller than the increasingly large 911, and not unuseable or flashy like a Ferrari. My car will be Dark Blue Met with LWBs, CCBs, adaptive lights plus leather, hifi etc - total circa 82k. I think this car delivers in spades. It instantly feels just right and you simply cannot help but smile - a lot. It's just good fun, well made, goes well, is predictable and grips liked a good 'un. The noise is addictive, the gearbox sublime and the driving position superb. Are the ratios long? Yes. Will they affect my enjoyment? No. I will on the road for the vast majority of the time and don't care about the 0-40 performance at all. At higher speeds on country roads the gears will make sense and the torque means that it is fine in most driving conditions not to run the engine to the red line all the time. Does it understeer? Yes, but trailing braking and balancing the car helps a lot. But many cars understeer on track whilst making fun and safe road cars. If it bugs me when my car arrives, I will change the suspension settings. I cannot see what the fuss is about for those of us that are not totally track focussed. I loved the car, can't wait for mine to arrive, have no intention of selling it and look forward to happy times enjoying it. Perhaps those who want to track it should look at the Clubsport version that may offer shorter ratios and more oversteer bias.
Welcome! Great choice of colour smile My BGTS is DBM and it's lovely esp in the sunshine smile

With respect though, i have to say that this makes no sense to me:

"I like the very occasional track day but will spend most of my time with the GT4 on the road.....I will on the road for the vast majority of the time....At higher speeds on country roads the gears will make sense and the torque means that it is fine in most driving conditions not to run the engine to the red line all the time."

How can the gearing not bother you? You're basically only ever going to use the car on the road, so realistically you're only ever going to get to use the engine fully in 2 gears!

but no fine tuning to make the car handle how you want. I don't want a track car, but I would like a road car which at least works on track better.

So you drive to track days and with a few turns of 4 adjusters you have a much better track weapon which you can also tweak for the dry/wet smooth or bumpy.
And with a nice set of shocks a much better road car also.

Look even Renault hot hatch has Adjustable Ohlins ! and that's a quicker car on track then the same car without !!

Welcome, sounds like a twin of my car (colour and spec). Understeer is not an issue for keen track users as they will stiffen the rear arb and/or counter any initial understeer by trailing the brakes upto the apex, it's a total non-issue (for those have a modicum of talent). I agree with your other comments, the gearing wasn't a big issue for me either and I am super excited about getting the car !

I think a few should do the EVO how fast days, we will then see who has that talent you talk about you have in spades :-)

Be nice to get 10 or 15 people on the how fast days for £100 to work out a pecking order of driver talent on the forum :-)

As no one here I know of is paid to race full time, would be good to see who the drivers are among us and be a fun day out.

esp as a lot are Buying a track focused GT4's plus all will be stock with same tyres and it's a safe track.

I don't mind being slower than a few as long as I am not the slowest :-).

I never said I had talent in shades, I said understeer wasn't an issue for those who had learnt how to drive round it, so please refrain from trying to paint me as a tt. you come across as such a objectionable person on this forum, I am sure you can't be like that in person, so yes why not. let's do it at a proper circuit like Spa, can't be bothered with mickey mouse ex airfields thanks.

timing and racing are not allowed on track days, and people get too excited and will do, "do or die moves".

the how fast days are timed days and safe as one car goes out at a time for 2 timed runs.

As many have GT4's and talk the talk it's a safe place to set some lap times.

I am not pointing you out, but you did quote "it's a total non-issue (for those have a modicum of talent"

which must be pointed at people here no ? other wise why say it ?

I am a fair person, and a fun day out on a timed event would imo be interesting if we got 10 or so GT4 together.

Maybe not everybody enjoys banging through the gears or the roads near him only require these 2 gears or....

If your going to do a 'race' you should choose a track in which happy D doesnt really know or do you get a chance to have multiple practise laps before everyone has a go?

which 2 gears ? as the GT4 does 85 Mph in 2nd you are only going to ever stay in 2nd gear , that's still 25mph above the limit !

Be just like GT3 days, B roads with no gear changing :-)

No one is racing, that's a daft concept in roads cars on track days !!!

it is such a shame to see what this forum has become. A certain someone has managed to draw some people in. Lets have some views from those who have collected their cars as well as some photos!

Maybe we like that, maybe some of us dont get a hard on by trying to match down shifts/revs etc nor care about heel toeing. You do seem to have trouble grasping this, infact why are you buying one if youve already identified its flaws?

Wasnt you the one who recommended Bedford for the timed test? Given that you possibly know the track better than some random will play into your hands as you have 'local knowledge' (see Nurburg videos for more evidence)
