Is the bubble about to burst?

It's funny this collecting thing- it can be just a niche hobby done by a few geeks but then when the particular items become investment material the whole game changes.....in the early 1970's my father loved
trying to track down/buy pre war tractors.....hardly anyone bothered- he bought several for near scrap metal prices.....he still owns them all and some are now worth more than my Porsche 993. My father to his credit has never even considered selling any, he just enjoys having them and driving them about in the summer at working shows etc.

How much would it cost to restore something like that properly with a recognised specialist like canford's? Ball park figure assuming all parts are there... £100k?lboase said:

Depends on how much of the actual car remains once blasted and dipped,In the good old days you could get a beardy man to do it for 6 mnths wages plus parts, but time has moved on and you would have do it for the love of it with a blank cheque,Or the beardy man would buy it for himself to do up in-between jobs,But that is beside the point as its just to damn expensive in the first place..I saw a 993 Turbo in speed yellow today. 6,000 miles on the clock. Owned by Saudis, taken for servicing by some old chap and kept locked up the rest of the time. Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Probably 2 trillion squid's worth!
Brooklands OPC had a few 993s around today (I think for servicing). All utterly gorgeous and in impeccable external condition. All had the look of being detailed on a regular basis - a lot of original-looking but very good paintwork, plastics surprisingly black, etc. A lot of people are spending big money keeping these old cars looking good.

Just what part of that have I miss-read? If you re-read it, you'll see that the whole reply is utter BS. Ah I see, adding 'seem' into a sentence means its not really true then, and I might be lying a little; but as I've included 'seem' or 'seemingly' into it, I can go to bed and sleep the sleep.
Now it all makes sense, my mistake.
