Chances of getting a 991.2 GT3?
Discussion
Spot on. There are a few enthusiasts that track rs and speciales but they are in the minority, most just want to be seen with them and the fact that the values hold is a bonus. As an enthusiast you are competing with collectors, speculators and everyone else. I say buy something else. Used or new.
Loads of good stuff in the back catalogue of Porsches that are still good value.

I probably don't have a hope in hell of getting a 991.2GT3 but as I got a GT4 never having bought a new Porsche from the OPC I live in hope. Thankfully I have a good relationship with the sales manager so who knows....despite the apparent hurdles to get an allocation.
If not, I guess I will just have to struggle along with the GT4.

That will ever happen, and AG would be mad to do so. Their policy, like it not, works on a number of levels.
Oh I know that and agree however it's a shame that we have to put up with the false pretence that Porsche are making cars for the enthusiast to enjoy and are against flipping of new cars etc when they can solve e issue in one fell swoop.Ironically, for those enthusiasts amongst us who actually went to Geneva to see the car, it was still to late to have a hope of getting one. The annoying thing with 'limited availability' models is there is no defined and regulated process (from Porsche).
The OPC dealer principle has a total and final say.
And unfortunately you need to be known at that OPC to get even a chance with models where demand massively outstrips supply. It's the same at Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin. It's all part of the marketing genius. If Porsche made each model unlimited, then nobody would want one.
We all want what we can't have...

Yup. I tend to think it's about "encouraging" customers to buy the more mainstream models. Seems like you need to buying one or two new cars a year at least and have been doing that for a few years to have a chnace. Frankly paying £30k over the top for a GT3 is probably a lot cheaper but doesn't give you bragging rights in the pub!
I think this is an excellent point. I'm sure the amount lost by turning over your cars frequently enough to be 'on the list' would cover a GT3 purchase for 'overs'. Then just keep, the thing for five or ten years and enjoy it.I think the solution is for Porsche to offer more 'enthusiast' options. Currently the options list is skewed toward gadgets and cosmetics; if you could spec the R 6-speed, a GT3 engine, some lightweight bits etc on a regular 911, you could potentially keep both camps happy.

It amuses me greatly how customers from other brands demand they're first Porsche is a GT3...
Why does it amuse you? If I wanted a car and have the money to pay for it they why should I not be able to buy the car I want?
If I wanted to buy a new Phone, I wouldn't buy a basic Nokia and then 'work-my-way-up' to the smart-phone I really want.
If I wanted to buy a new laptop, I wouldn't buy a crappy Acer from PC World..... etc etc
Goods are goods, white goods or luxury goods.... the bks surrounding luxury goods is just that....bks !

You can if you want the car badly enough - just not at list price. A lot of this 'enthusiast' demand for the new GT cars only seems to be at list price. Wonder why..... isaldiri said:

Of course it is. However v8skn's point was that why shouldn't he be able to buy the car he wants (gen2 gt3 or R or anything else) - he can, just not necessarily at list. Whether or not it's idiotic doesn't really figure.
You don't see Apple asking for 'letters-of-intent' to purchase the new fandangled iPhone 27, they just make as many as they can and sell as many as they can and people STILL queue and camp outside their stores on launch day.

This isnt a one way street. When the tide starts going out there will be a lot of people taking a bath and the dealers will be begging you to go down there to spec your car.
The only way that will happen is if there's a major world war and people will want to hold onto their cash?Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
