I think a lot of you guys are missing the point, my guess is whoever bought that car was in the trade, most salvage is sold to bodyshop guys.

I am not saying joe public hasnt bought it, but even if that is the case if they can do the work themself's then a big saving on labour will be acheived.

If that car was sat in the corner of my workshop and used as an inbetween job's deal i would be quite happy, i know a chap bought a ferrari 456, took him over a year to source the parts and repair the car, cheap motor at the end.
exactly right and what a car to end up with worth the money.

It was, but came back on again yesterday. I am having someone look at it on Tuesday to see how bad the floor is.
Not sure weather it is any help,,,, but i noticed on the megafactories programme that the floor pan was one section ,,ie the middle bit but both sides if you see what i mean.

Would'nt like to guess the price from porsche though, and a fairly major job to fit the whole section, again only my opinion but im guessing that motor will get a section only welded in.

Perhaps they offer a repair panel? You could look on PET.

Its best to find another damaged car and chop the section out you wont get a repair panel for that from halfords!

Err, no - you get a repair panel from an OPC.

Im not disagreeing with what you say but some panels are unobtainable and require a reshell ad I think this is one.

GT3RS = 80k ish so to write it off the repairs would need to be 50k ish.

I know for a fact that a sill, quarter, door, front bumper and lip and that part of the floorpan would not come to 50k which is what would be required to write it off.

If you can get the parts I cant see the repair coming to more than 15k, it simply does not look that bad UNLESS you cant get that part from porsche and it does indeed need a shell.

I sort of follow your reasoning: I suppose. If new repair panels arent available, then a properly executed sectional repair can be just as good. Whether itll suit this particular car I cant say, because I have virtually no experience of 996/997s.

err yes,
if Im correct you cant buy a 1/4 section of floor pan its easier to get a second hand bit of floor and sill and (particuarly with a front end) looks a bit more settled in with 2nd hand parts than all new shiny headlamps trim ect, also as with ferrari you may find you leave a paper trail ordering new parts against your vin/reg which is a main factor in the desicsion to use second hand parts as any prospective purchaser can get the info from any OPC hth

Looking at the two cars, the 996 looks a fairly straightforward repair, if expensive, but the 997 looks like a re-shell to do properly (to me at least)!

Dont forget some policies when taken out on very late cars pay out in full for quite minor damage for example when someone smashes their Porsche and do not want it repaired ,in that situation as its a large payout the car will be perhaps even cat C but for relatively minor damage conversley a cat D can still be a nasty repair.

have to laugh at the people who think that anyone who's bought either car is going to go anywhere near an OPC for parts to repair them.

I think this shell will be sold shortly after the orange GT3RS...

Id laugh at anyone who didnt price repair panels from an OPC first. Most of the Porsches Ive repaired have used genuine repair panels, which werent particularly expensive. Added to which - watercooled body panels are far cheaper than classic panels were.

If the panels are available at a viable price then Id opt for those over a section.

I had placed a few bids on the car and intended bidding on it yesterday, but for some reason I could not bid on it when it came up. I am still waiting on a reply from copart as to why this happened but I am not happy.
It sold for £40k again.
