I am with M400Jet in this. "Fortunately" my 997tt has been with the OPC all week waiting for the delivery of a Tracker Horizon (which seems to have disappeared form the surface of the earth) so I have not lost my license in the first week of ownership.

If anyone of you have any issue with turbo lag on a 997TT then buy a Carrera GT or a McLaren F1, because as a road car it does absolutely you could every want. If there is a little bit of lag compared to a 996 who cares? It's ultimately faster. A GT2 has LOADS of lag, but so what. It's got...............TURBOS!!!!!!!!!!

Drive around it or get a normally aspirated car.

WHY?????????????????? I use it EVERYDAY, my foot never falls off, it never breaks down, it never gets a period!

WHY?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Just want to make it absolutely clear that I never said I had a particular issue with the fact that the 997 has a tad more turbo lag than the 996. Just commented that it was there that's all! I suspect that within a few hours of first driving these cars new owners will never think about it again because as you suggest a good driver will drive round it and automatically start putting their foot down a split second - and that's all it is - before they want the power - almost subconciously probably. And they'll probably be doing it in fourth or higher while a GT3 driver is desperately dropping to third (might as well upset them too I suppose!) Having dicovered that Turbo owners are as touchy as GT3 drivers just wanted to put the record straight. Very envious that you're all getting your 997tts before my 997GT3 arrives - although that will of course be the superior drivers car.................

The 997tt does seem to have a little more lag than the 996 version - which doesn't seem like progress to me.

I thought OPC used Cobra?? thats what mine has on it, The 430 has Navtrak, I Find Cobra easier to use by texting you, where as Navtrak ring you every five mins to see if every thing is ok, which i guess is pretty good really so ill shut up!

I really get the impression some people are confusing throttle lag with linearity of boost on WOT.

My fillings are fine and intact. The GT2 ride is firm, probably too firm for an Aston Martin driver, but personally I like sports cars and it has never seemed over the top. Not as hard as a 997 C2S with PASM in sport mode.

Going on the German autobahn at app. 160 - 180 mph last week-end I switched on the PASM on the 997tt and the steering became so direct and the suspension so unforgiven that it actually felt quite scary at those speeds when the surface is not 100% smooth.

Not had much experience of 996 base TT, but loads in an X50 and now 997TT. 997 is without doubt, as someone said above, the easiest to lose your license in. By a mile. Its better (or should that be worse) than a 430 for that because cruising at 120 feels like 90.

As for lag, don't recall either being bad for this, but with the Sport button on the 997 feels very alive all the time. I'm not saying 1000 revs is optimal, but who cares.

Can't wait to see what the upgraded engine one is like....

Delta how do you compare the 2 cars? like you ive been fortunate enough to have both the 430 and the 997 TT, the 430 to me is a car for special occasions, call me what you want but thats how it is with me, fantastic car, looks performance Etc Etc, now ive had some bad experiances with Porsche some years back and promised myself id never buy another, Then i go and Buy the 997 TT "The one in DGs Picture" Its a Hooligan and I love it, ill take back all i ever said about Porsche over the years, ive driven the 996 Turbo s and i cant see that the 997 TT has a noticable Turbo Lag whilst comparing against the 996 Turbo S, If i was to hop out of one say at Silverstone or somewhere then into mine I could give you a better judgement on what ive found.

Agree the 430 is the more special occasion car, but point to point I don't think there's any doubt the 997 would win on pretty much any road. Never had a bad experience with Porsche....yet.....(looking for some wood to touch).

To respond to another point earlier though, totally agree with the steering at v high speed - was doing 130+ the other day, with PASM etc active, and felt every undulation on the road. OK this isn't that bright a speed, but I was very surprised by the way the car was handling. It was more challenging than I ever felt the 996 to be....more CGT than anything. And thats a good thing....!!!

Ah the old road car, track car debate...........

Why does a 996TT go from 93k to 57k (retail)-36k in 4 yrs.

& a 996GT2 from 130k to 65k (retail)-65k in 4 yrs.

Why, because of limited appeal, one mans daily driver is anothers track car nightmare.
I love the GT2 fabulous car AMAZING value second hand, AWESOME in fact...BUT don't assume that just because you find it a perfect daily driver that others see it as this, residuals do tell a tale!

I've found that Sport Chrono will only engage when the PASM button is pressed and it looks like it's not so much tied to PSM, but more towards IAT's and coolant temperatures, etc. Makes for a hard ride and if you want to try scary then give it welly across 'B' & 'C' English lanes, with their 'smooth' surfaces!
It's also been established on the dyno that torque is really the only gain with the overboost setting. There is no additional HP. It's adding about 30 more lb/ft of torque at peak.
In quick throttle operation the response to acceleration with a manual box will give the impression [and feel]of turbo lag, that's why the tiptronic is faster because of the difference in throttle response program.
IMO It's still the most lasting enjoyment that can be had for £100k.
