And another thing.... The E30 dash was uncannily similar to a 993 paperbag

what, after the crash? cos they tell me the ad-hoc placement of dials in a 993 is functional.

ie not as good as it should be.
Pah - the 993 is only pseudo-random, the '80s cars were truly random.

I usually discover a new switch each year, last year of was the concentrated washer spray, as opposed to the regular one, the year before I think it was the high speed fan on the max temperature setting/screen clear (between the seats), only recently trying to move the seat I found out they were heated (after a 'my god, these are warm now' moment) and figuring out the heater controls has taken over 4 years and I'm still not sure what the difference between the red heater control on the dash and the read turn switch between the seats is, but I do know that the 3rd fan control below the dash on the 'climate' uses an apparantly different set of vents to the other system. 4 sliders, three rotary controls, no rationale at all.

The E30 dash however has a heat control, a fan control, and window, cabin and feet sliders, clearly the product of a sane mind without any secrets, 'tis entirely different oh king of the green hallway, except for the lightswitch

pull knob for the lights works perfectly although the headlight adjustment is piss poor

My bad phrasing: I meant that only the lightswitches were the same (Bosch) part on both cars...
