996 GT3 or 996 Turbo?

Not that I have the budget at the moment, but I'm already deciding ahead of time...
Which one do you reckon would be the best to get considering the it will be my main car (not only) but will do most daily stuff and also some trackdays (4 -8 a year).
Is a GT3 too hard to live with?
(I used to have a 993 turbo)

I have a MKII GT3, and it is fantastic for trackdays and the odd blast on a Sunday afternoon, but the hard suspension, stiff clutch and bucket seats certainly take their toll on you after a long period behind the wheel.
I would certainly not have one if it was my daily driver, as the above would for me tarnish the whole experience, I am lucky enough to be waiting for a Turbo cab coming next week, so the GT3 will certainly be a garage queen for me.
The Turbo will be equally awesome for straight line speed and will indeed be a decent handler, but the GT3 is in a class of its own on the track.
Turbo would be best alrounder IMO.

PS I think the GT3 is liveable with, but then again I think that of Caterhams and 964RSs. It has low ride height, no PSM and is lively in the wet. Only you know if these are major gripes or petty niggles. The Turbo is far friendlier on a daily basis, but my guess is it fails to excite like a GT3 on track. (Only driven GT3 on track, but GetCarter may have an interesting counterpoint as he tracks his 996tt).

Very much a personal preference, I don't think the GT3 ride is too harsh or uncompromising in the least. The way it communicates with you as you drive is just fantastic.
FWIW - we just completed a 2000 mile round trip to the south of France and back in our GT3 and it was no problem at all. No aches and pains, in fact felt very fresh and happy getting out of it each day (trip lasted 6 days). Not as easy to pack overnight bags and the obligatory several cases of wine as the turbo I guess, but we managed it (somehow).

Not an uncommon criticism from the porquine cognescenti but I've found that by changing the suspension (seats and steering wheel!), there is 'character' to be had in spades.
It's a car which after 4 years ownership has melded almost perfectly to the low voltage responses of it's driver, to provide a surge of electrical switchability which when flicked, has few peers that might illicit the response, "oh yes, that's much better."
Having said that, I could imagine forgoing final Fezza ownsership in favour of RS-dom in a year or two - recent (all-too brief) exposure therein (993RS and GT3-RS) were certainly eye-widening.

You see this is my issue here. I love the 993TT big time, and I'm also considering one again instead of a 996 derivitive, and spending some money on suspension extra power etc. This was why I was thinking about the GT3 route, or even a 993 RS.

Depends on what you want it for naturally, but if you are seeking an authentic, unadulterated driving experience then it would be the GT3.
To use a Clarkson analogy if it was a woman the Turbo would be equivalent of Jordan; in your face eye candy, all creature comforts included, a little obvious and with huge amounts of artificial enhancement. The GT3 on the other hand would be Angelina Jolie; subtle, sleek, sexy, focused but with an edge.

I certainly couldnt use it every day.
Its very harsh, rather claustrophobic (in Clubsport trim), and the ground clearance is appalling....those bastard pyramid shaped bump will kill the car.
Plus the lack of rear seats is a pain

I echo mod's last comment. Having recently bought a GT3 (as a daily driver and track day car), it is questioning my manhood somewhat, and has found me lacking thus far. It is a truly awesome experience, but one which I am going to have to work hard at to get the most out of. Still, the best cars are the most challenging ones...
For a daily driver, especially on pot-holed and congested British roads, I would go for a turbo. No shame in that at all.

As a Mk 1 GT3 owner, I would agree with most of the previous comments made.
The firm ride would not put me off using my GT3 everyday but the amazingly low ride height certainly would!
A couple of months back while travelling up to Mallory Park, I was caught out by a speed hump and had to tie up the damaged splitter with string! Fortunately, the splitter itself was not expensive and Parr Garage fitted a replacement for about £80.00.
I use mine as a fun weekend road car and occasional track day car for which it is perfect but there's no way I'd drive it everyday.

I used to have a 993RS as an everyday car and loved it; either I got old, or Porsche "racecars for the road" became less usable, but I positively hated my mk1 GT3 -- I live in London and drive to work every day, and the combination of heavy clutch, low ride height and an engine that sounded like a bag of bolts being spin-dried meant I almost always chose to drive something else every day.
Get the TT for day-to-day and buy something else for fun & trackdays.

All cars are a compromise! My 993TT spits me out of my seat during any hard cornering but I don't want to change it into an RS wannabee with buckets and stuff.
If i'd bought a GT3 or RS I would have instead moaned about the heavy clutch or excessive feedback or something else. I give myself a headache with every decision in life!
