Paint Protection Film recommendations?
Discussion
Hello again,
Having just seen the first (albeit small) paint chip in my brand new Cayman I'm not a happy bunny. I definitely can't run to getting it wrapped, but a mate in the motor industry suggested I look into the clear film protection for the front and wing mirrors. I Googled it, and as always there are loads of companies that come up, so I was just wondering if anyone on here has any good recommendations (I'm based in Bedfordshire)? Also what sort of price is reasonable? Again I've got absolutely no frame of reference.
Thanks very much

I've had my cars protected using Ventureshield and had an independent installer do them.
To be an approved 3M reseller, you have to comply with service standards which include having premises, customer toilet and things like that. You pay a premium but this doesn't materially improve the product you get.
I carefully checked out all the fitters I was considering and elected to go independent as it was more convenient and the volume of recommendations suggested there was not going to be a problem. He does all of Ferrari's work in the UK (manufacturer/press cars) so if you want his details, PM me.
I had nose, half bonnet, mirrors done. About 20% cheaper but you need to have somewhere sheltered to do the work of course.

Ha ha ha - that's hilarious! Good to knew about Ventureshield - I wish I'd have got it done right from the off. What sort of price will I be looking at? It seems quite difficult to get to that on the websites!
Cost depends on coverage. Mine was around the £600 mark if I recall.VS is a good recommendation, had both my 991's protected. Full bonnet (don't do half as you get an unseemly line)and front apron/spolier.
Total cost £400. Just make sure the installer comes with recommendations
Added bonus is it's self healing, leave it in the sun and any swirls disappear

I got the new Boxster some protection today. My installer generally uses VS but this time I asked him to try XPEL which he hadn't tried before. It's too early to see if it any better from a user point of view but my installer says he doubts he'll bother with VS again. He found the XPEL much nicer to install.

I have read somewhere that the xpel is better than ventureshield. I think it was on a Porsche forum, it could have even been this one.
Did I also read that Porsche tried to worm out of a warranty claim because a car had a non approved film on it. Or am i getting that confused with all the stuff I have been cramming into my brain.
I am thinking of some film too, so if anyone can recommend a fitter in the Chester area, and it won't effect my warranty that is hopefully still in tact, then please let me know.

No product is bullet proof though as I found out last weekend. A rock was thrown up from a car travelling in the other direction, hit the bonnet, dented it, punctured the film and left a knife type 1cm cut in the paint down to the aluminium. I'll have to get the film removed, dent popped out, pencil touched and the film reapplied. I was really pissed off, but you can't stop these things. Overall it is really good product for the standard types of little rocks that get thrown up.
I have also just had my windscreen done with a US product called Clearplex. Initially I thought it wasn't much good, but as the moisture dried out it is probably about a 9/10. Another good idea for those doing lots of highway or track miles.

On the XPEL i hope so, just got it fitted to the front of my Mini at Paintshield a few days ago. I have to say I cannot see the film at all between the wing which has it, and the door which doesn't, no egdes as they're wrapped and I just can's see any difference in the paint 'orange peel' effect between the two. I 'know' it's there so haven't been ripped off in case you're wondering.
