Anyone recommend a detailer on south coast / Surrey borders? I've clayed and waxed my motor but it needs a machine polish. Most want the car for 4 days and a £500 fee.

Need something a bit bespoke

Cheers

John Drake - search John's Wax online. Highly recommended and he will come to you and work at your home.

For a drop off and pick up service then I would use Valet Magic (Robbie) in Camberley.

I've used them both and both are excellent.

£500 is too rich for me. I'd end up being scared to drive it in case I got it dirty. I just want the paintwork freshened but not to pure perfection.

How difficult is it to machine polish Porsche paintwork if I bought a dual action polisher?

In my experience, it’s best left to a professional, it's pretty easy to 'burn' through the clear coat, or just make things a whole lot worse - and then you're in a world of hurt and even bigger money for correction...

I'm afraid it’s a case of having to pay for a professional service if you want a professional finish. You should be able to get someone to do a good job for around £250 - £300, but I really wouldn’t entrust your pride and joy to just anyone. I’m sure any of the personal recommendations above would fit the bill.

yeah, don't get me wrong im not dissing detailers, sounds like they make the car like new i'd just be wary that I'd end up never driving it at risk of getting it dirty or scratched.

doing it myself sounds risky as well. Look easy on youtube.

I'll get in touch with the ones mentioned and go from there.

Pay to have it done. Its not too difficult if you know what you are doing but to even get a decent result you will have to spend upwards of £150 on a DA, polishes, pads etc. You need to spend a huge amount of time learning technique and once you've done that you would still be looking at 2-3 days of your time to do a reasonable job.
A pro will know immediately which pad/polish combo to use on your paint and will likely get it looking better than when it left the showroom.

I would only recommend getting a DA if you are into the whole detailing thing and want to learn, not if you are looking to save money.

A polisher is quite good fun and I've enjoyed learning about it on an old car that didn't really matter. But to get a proper polish done on your P&J, I'd go to a pro! I had a really good job done by someone in a day. But if I wanted to get the paintwork really good with no swirls, I can see how it'd take longer than a day. But for you it sounds like the job I had done would be about right for what you want. The guy doesn't do it any more so no good me recommending him!

PS I did a really good job on my exhaust tips with my polisher!
