Surely this flies in the face of the purpose of this thing? GT2s are turbocharged, not GT3s. The whole point is lighter weight, high-revving fun. I'd take the standard car; or a 997 GT3 with the Mezger. Perhaps Porsche should make it a proper RS ie lightweight instead of searching for extra power. I guess poseurs find lightweights uncomfortable and that's their main market.

Does seem strange. I'd have thought a turbo version would be more in line with the GT2 heritage. That said, it may explain the side air intakes:

Or it could all just be click-bait!

That would explain the side air intakes in the leaked images and the fact they have mentioned possibly dropping the GT2 from their range!

Not sure I would agree with this though " It would also fit in with the current turbocharging ethos in the supercar segment "

Sure for things like the California and Mac but direct market aka Lamo Superleg and Speciale types - all normally aspirated...

And so they should be! biggrin

Here's the original source

I suppose it could all be part of the same story? Or maybe the vents are there to extinguish any engine fires smile

I know the article well. You will just have to wait and see. All I will say is, and you thought the 991GT3 was good. As I said before this is Porsche at the very top of there game, at what they do best.

As i've said in another thread, these models have a huge profit margin. The GT2 is a parts bin special, so imagine it will come along eventually.

Torque Fill to fix the throttle response, engine management to control boost levels to give the desired power delivery characteristics; pipes and/or stereo to provide the sounds.

The manufacturers will provide these 'solutions' but it's all getting very, very synthetic. frown

I believe the GT3 will go hybrid before it even goes anywhere near a turbo

Hybrid the near future
Electric the future
Diesel dead

Not really - if they just wanted performance they buy the Turbo as which will be cheaper and more usable than the GT3 RS.

100% Guarantee Ferrari will never turbo charge their entry level / sport range (aka 458 and alike) or their V12's. It's what they do, their DNA... In the same way they'll never make an SUV. Sure you'll see them on their more touring type cars but car with F1 DNA. Never. Hybrid maybe...

Still think you're wrong - Market doesn't want a turbo charged GT3 / RS (have the GT2 for that). These cars are about their purity and there is a very strong market for that.
Checkout some of the postings in the Porsche section on that site Pistonheads, it's all they ever bore on about! :-)
