How can you tell the difference between a real gt3 and a dressed up C2 which there seem to be a lot of ?

Drive it you will soon know!

the easiest way is to check the VIN number as in WPoZZz99ZXs.....
the first 10-12 letters will be model type and unique to the Gt3....and the year it was made.

assuming someone has put the bodykit,& wheels on, fitted the seats.....things that are expensive to replicate are the GT3 emblem behind the glass on the instruments. Often the "copies" do not have the correct suspension and sit too high... the brakes calipers & discs are larger than regular carreras and red on earlier cars or possibly yellow on later cars if ceramics are fitted...

if you look under the engine cover,,,the GT3 has a different engine with the air intake in front of you, i recall the regular 3.4/3.6 engine has the intake higher up to the right.....look on a regular carrera and it shouldn't look like that on a real gt3 basically

Say we are talking no access to a V5 or even a ride in it - just a bragging mate down the pub whom we susppect may be bending the truth a little !!

What were the key differences with the gt3 ?

edited to add - thanks clubsport - that should sort it out !

1. do the finger test.
You should be able to fit 3x fingers between
wheel arch and top of tyre on normal c4/c2
2x fingers if it has sports suspension, and 1x finger if it's a real GT3.

2. interior, nearly all MKI's will have either Buckets or Roll cage or both.

3. MKI had red painted calipers, i believe all carreras had Silver ones (could be wrong here ?)

4. If you pass one on track, it aint a GT3 !!! (unless you are in another GT3 of course) or maybe a GT2 !!

No rear wiper. No rear seats. Red or yellow brake calipers. No sunroof option.

Clubsport has the easiest way of telling: ask to have a look at his speedometer "to see what it goes up to".

The GT3 will have "GT3" in the middle of the instrument.

what about seeing if there is a PSM button? GT3 wont have one, - but then its an option on some c2. - but another indicater nonetheless.

Follow him to the loo, stand next to him at the urinals, catch a quick glimpse, you'll soon know if has a regular porsche C2 or a GT3.

I like gazzabs reasoning.....:-)

The easiest way I have found is the rear seats, most people leave thes in.

Also check the red line on the rev counter, on a standard car I think it goes to 7200, on the GT3 this will be 8250.....

My Mk2 GT3 has headlamp washers, thought they were part of the Litronic kit!

Oh and TCB - please let us know what you discover - no, not the size of his todger, but whether it is a genuine car - the (absence of the)GT3 moniker on the speedo ought to tell you what you need to know

I thought this was only the Mk2 - I thought the Mk1 redlined at 7600 or so.

I think MK1 has an 8k red line too-though the mk2 has one slightly higher due to lightened engine internals

all the best

He's outed !!

Small todger and a C2 not GT3

It failed all of the tests you mentioned !

He does however still maintain that his is a limited debadged model with a few gt3 bits deleted on purpose !!!

Thanks for the guidance
