There's been much discussion on the relevant merits of OPC vs reputable independants to carry out servicing post warranty, however no-one has said who they are. So, in your honest opinions, who are these independents that you would trust your beloved porsche to (and which wouldn't affect resale), and are they reputable for all models and years, or do they specialise in only certain of these?

RSR Engineering - Godalming

EDIT: Not Godalming but Grayshott - as correctly pointed out below - either way Russ is a _Top Guy_ - very knowledgeable & trustworthy.

A friend used Tognola recently and was happy.

There's a big list here:
www.911virgin.com/spanners.htm

It is really tricky to find an outfit that you've heard nothing bad about - there's always someone with a story about how they got shafted, or the work was crap, or they missed something, or they kept the car for 6 months, etc etc.

Given that we're not supposed to slag anyone off - how about people only posting the names of companies that they would unreservedly recommend - and then we can count up who gets the most votes?

answering this would be a massive task, since there are many well reputed indies out there. Is your motive curiosity or cos you need a recommendation? if the latter then probably best to say whereabouts you are to get the best from your answers.

I take mine to Oak Tree garage, a small outfit in a tiny village close to Sidmouth on the south devon coast. I think they are great - efficient, competent, honest and hugely knowledgeable, but I doubt they are well known nationally and wouldnt suggest you went there if you live in lincolshire!

the most commonly quoted ones on PH seem to be (in no particular order) Hartech, JZMachtech, Northway, GTone. PorrschePost have a plethora of indies in their adverts section, many of whoose names ive recognised from positive posts here before.

true, negative comments on PH are strongly discouraged, even censored for good legal reasons, but there's nothing to stop youn posting an Indies name and asking for any adverse comment to be emailed direct to you rather than posted.

I have always used Tognola in Datchet for my 944 turbo (though unsurprisingly most of his business is 911s). Not the cheapest but no complaints on the work.

My intention is to establish a short list of independents, garnered from the people who use them, that are universally recognised as reputable. One man's trusted garage is another's unheard of workshop.

Russell is situated just behind our showroom premises in Grayshott, he's a constantly busy professional engineer with an enviable pedigree with all things Pork, who is much in demand, a thoroughly nice guy, who not only attracts owners of production models for routine servicing but also those with highly modified Porsche derivatives from the stables of Ruf etc. who demand the highest integrity and competance.
