Trade in price for my 996, main dealer
Discussion
Looking to upgrade my 996 C2 (2003), 15k miles, black/black, 18 sport design wheels, BOSE, heated seats, ali bits, sports exhaust and a few other tiny bits.
Dealer is telling me 41-42k trade price, is this average? Is this a bad time of year to sell or is the market just that bad.
Also, what should I ask if I wanted a quick private sale?

Mojo,
I got £48,000 for my 2002 Targa which had the same spec/miles as yours. Give Scott Kavanagh a call at Camtune in the City - £41,000 is cheeky - they would retail a car like that for at least £49,999.
I think the car market is always rocky when selling and always picking up when buying!

I'd push for a little more. A month ago I got £43500 for my 03 996C2, 7500 miles but less options than yours (just 18" wheels and sound). My old car is now up for £48995 at the OPC, but given it was due a service and extended warranty when I sold it, I don't think the price was unfair.
you should be getting over 45k trade in for that car, sell it privately and get about 47k, its not a great time of year for it but if you advertise in the right places like the owners club etc you should get some interest. If not call around the traders/Specialists. 911 Virgin would sell it for you for commission too
When I was selling my 996 I tried several of the bigger independents. Most of them were not interested, because they said the car was "too new". The only offer from an independent was a derisory one several thousand pounds below what main dealers were offering (and we're talking of a mint one-owner car here).
But with the 997 starting at 58k, and cancelled orders meaning if you do some groundwork you don't have to wait 12 months for one, you do have to ask yourself exactly who is going to pay circa 50k for a 2 year old 996 C2 or C4. I know I wouldn't if I was buying one.
