997S meets Tubi in a marriage of harmony
Discussion
On Saturday I finally got to take my car down to Verdi Ferrari for my long anticipated Tubi exhaust fitting. For many years I have always loved the Tubi sound on Ferrari's and when Manu of Scuderia Systems said that a 997 Tubi exhaust was in development I put my order in straight away.
So there I was on Saturday talking Ferrari's and Porsches with Manu and his mates from Verdi while watching my car have its hair dryer exhaust removed and replaced. The standard 997S exhaust really is far too quiet and unsporty and could well be fitted on a Lexus as opposed to a sports car. The PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust) was not available at the time of ordering my car and has only recently become an available option. As much as I admire the sound of the Porsche exhaust the gimmicky switch to turn it on and off and the rediculous price of having it fitted aftermarket had put me off it.
Finally once installed and having bored the hell out of Manu and his colleagues with questions about all the Ferrari's littered around the garage (whats that in for? how much? who owns that? etc etc) it was time to start up the car. Manu insisted that we take it for a spin to listen for leaks or rattles but I had watched the installation and was already well impressed with the professionalism and attention to detail of the mechanic.
As the car sat idling the noise was nice and subdued. Louder than standard but not annoying at all. No sooner had we gone 20 yards and I realised that no other future car will be without a Tubi. The noise was a beautiful angry bark. Deeper and broader than the PSE scream. Suddenly my car sounded like it go's, something it had been really lacking for 8 months.
Round a few roundabouts and up and down a bypass and I could not stop smiling. This exhaust was everything I had hoped for. It gave the car a lot more character but
was never too loud or boomy. Strangely it also goes up motorways very quietly on a steady throttle. Around town it is easy enough to modulate the sound using the right peddle. If you want attention and admiring looks or scorn from the uninitiated, just open the throttle. If you want to cruise by unnoticed just hold it steady.
So would I recommend this exhaust? What do you think? It has changed my car so much that I am back in love with it all over again. It has totally transformed the car and put to rest the one criticism I have had of it since I bought it.
Any negatives? Yes it is going to cost me a fortune in petrol! I can't help being one gear lower than I should be just to hear that noise as I open the floodgates.
Is it better than the PSE? I much prefer the deeper sound of the Tubi and the fact it is cheaper, is just an added sweetner.
Go get one fitted now !

Nice video, but I notice that you have put the original tips back on, so am I right in saying that the tubi is the same as the standard exhaust in that the original muffler of the 997S has two exhaust tips but they are in reality one exhaust pipe that divides into two, it’s a "fake" quad exhaust. On the Porsche Sport Exhaust however, the two exhaust pipes are for real, they are really two tips coming out separately from the muffler on each side. Actually the inner smaller pipe of the Sport Exhaust is activated when the exhaust in on ON mode, when the PSE is off, only the larger lateral pipe is working.
