Dear All,

We are still experiencing intermittent boost problems with the R turbo. Basically, we are on the autobahn, middle of fourth gear, and then you nail it. 1.1 bar comes up and the car just flies, shift at redline to 5th, and then we only get 0.8 bar and the car is no longer screaming.

I think that perhaps the OEM shitty bosch DV's cant hold the new boost after the shift and thus boost is being leaked?

However if we slow down again, and try it again 5th gear could be absolutely fine and show 1.1 bar. Its really annoying, does anyone have any advice?

I was thinking of these:

Thanks in advance,
all the best

Adam, the boost leak could be coming from somewhere else in the system, but as you say, some DVs are a bit plasticky and rubbish and something more blingbling made of anodised alloy may help. I would seriously suggest that you let my tech Andy F have a butchers at it before starting to replace bits tho'; he has been helping sort boost/running issues on a few cars recently, including some forum regulars you personally know, including a Lois mobile. Email me via profile for more details or ask Guy R.

Totally agree with Herr Domster , no plugging just fact..........i picked up a gt2 [993 ] been standing around for a couple of years , went up to Andy at Weltmeister went thru everything , they have a nice piece of duel carriage way , the rolling road and a Porsche screen thingee which u can drive up and down with watching the errors pop up!

Althought not water cooled in my experience if dump valves diaphragm s gone CONSISTENT low press ure reading , cats , Aamal valve and Lambda sensors , oily Maf all possible contributors to u prob............
Good luck

DON'T go to Hr. Fearns he is an absolute shyster of the highest order. I would not trust him with my Atco lawnmower.
(Vic FFS I told you don't tell everyone about him, when will we get our cars in!)

It looks like a Porsche Ipod and talks to your car through a socket and cable. Made by Bosch or something.

I'd get a Sony PSP myself, better games on it.

Thanks very much for the input guys, will have the MAFs checked as well. I think though that it is a really good and useful upgrade to get the billet DV's.

Thanks for the advice to have the car checked over with the guys at Weltmeister, Guy R has told me is very pleased with the work done on his car, however our car is at the moment staying at my GF's house less than 2000m from the RUF factory...

Guy was there same day they fitted my steel billet jobbies , no further probs, Maf or otherwise .................due to standing around, if that was nt clear mine had 'collected ' lot of oil in the wrong places, now cleared mainly from 2 track days and driving around !
Valves were my choice with little extra Roock powered kit seemed a sensible precaution

If the car is so close to RUF and it's aRUF car, why don't you get RUF to look at the problem? Or am I missing something here?

I thought RUF install the billet valves when they upgrade/build their cars? What's their view on the OEM v billet items?

I can tell you now that Andy's approach is more refreshing than a factory of Woodpecker cider inadvertently airlifted by the Graff Zepelin and then downed by the Canadian Airforce in a phallanx of Sopwith Camels.

from my experience of various turbo motors, you cannot do better than Forge dv's. Not sure if there is a 996 TT fitment but its likely.......

Diverter Valve It "diverts" boost away when it is not needed, i.e full boost during full throttle and then when you lift the boost has to go somewhere, that is the job of the DV

DV is normally a dump valve.

Presumably on a TT/GT2 it's a recirc?

Following previous thread (do a search) on dump valves I changed mine for Forge piston items. Sure enough, one of the old plastic ones failed the oral suck test ooeerrr so my engine had been bleeding boost at all times...

However, sporadic failure as described by Adam sounds an unlikely failure mode for diaphragm DVs - as noted by a previous poster these tend to leak or not. However could be a believable failure mode for piston versions that might hang up due to grit in the bore, but hard to imagine that Ruf with stay with plastic Bosch diaphragm verson as used by VW. Took an hour's DIY to whip mine out and replace, though I imagine that there may be a bit less access on a power boosted beast like a Ruf.

Gievn that the ECU can back off the boost pressure in response to various pressure or temperature readings, there are sure to be a myriad of reasons for not reliably achieving full boost. Diagnostic plug-in might be the quickest way to tell the tale. Hope that you're back frightening the Turbo-Rolfs quickly.

If i were you id go with the Evo or Forge DV's as the vaccum pipe is partialy protected by its design. These one's come with a 90 degree push fit swivel and fit better. I dont think the bailey ones are designed as well due to the tight and i mean tight fitting of the valves on the tt.
Cant believe Ruf leave the Std ones on when they do a conversion.
