New uber- Porsches spy-shotted

Exclusive pics of upcoming GT3RS / GT2

We can exclusively reveal that Porsche has started testing not one but two upcoming super-performing 911s. And we have spy-shots of both, thanks to super-snapper, Sebastian Geisler.

Spotted here testing on the public road, the Carrera GT2 (997) is expected around the end 2007 or early 2008, will boast some 530-550bhp, and include PCCB (ceramic brakes) as standard. It's differentiated by its modified front and rear spoilers, new exhaust system, and is about 80-100Kg lighter than the 997 turbo.

Porsche is doing its test work on the 997 GT3RS on the track. This beast is scheduled for release at the Paris Motor Show which runs from 30 September  to 15. October 2006.

It features PCCB as standard, uses the same wide body as Carrera 4 / 4S but with a different rear wing. It'll be 50-75Kg lighter than GT3 and carry a price tag of about £94,000, some £14,000 more than the 997 GT3.

On one image you can already see the GT3RS written on the bonnet.

Now, this is strange.

For holiday reading material, I bought this months 911 & PW to read on the plane. They had extensive coverage of the launch of the 997TT at Geneva. In the article, it said "According to a Porsche Cars GB spokesperson "There will not be a GT2 derivative of the 997"".

This sort of "a spokesperson said...." type specluation really gets on my tits.

Who cares, it's still gorgeous with a touch of Porsche nostalgia thrown in.

I'd buy one in a flash

Rear wing on GT3RS looks like an adjustable race wing.

Is this GT2 likely to be as 'misunderstood' as the last one, do we think, and will Porsche price it more sensibly so that owners don't have to face catastrophic depreciation?

The more I see of the various 911s (997s) the more I want one. I don't care that they all look very similar and change very little over time - they look fabulous to me. I'd be very happy with any one of them!

Of course it is, all porches are both exciting to look at and different. I bet if they didn't exist and some other marque were to produce a car that looks like a 911, everyone would say how wonderfull the design is, especially modest sized backside.

I'm not really that fussed how it looks - though I'd prefer it to look different from the base 911 - ultimately it's the driving dynamics that matter.

Love those Porsches and believe me its not easy to give them a 911 look and still make them better, and its not only the outside, they changed and bettered a lot under the skin! its not that difficult to change the outside(look at some buggys or kitcars) but its importend what the whole package is
Better stay whit a winning and selling design then change this winning team...
They also make other cars if you don't like those, even within Porsche...
I think those two the GT3RS and the GT2 are coming very close to the Carrera GT times at the Ring...think that GT2 could get even...
