Picked up my 996tt about 2weeks ago '51'plate and 19k,don't no whether it's me but i seem to get a slight droan from the front, the faster i go the more i notice it, just wondered if this is down to tyre noise? i can feel a very slight consistent rumble through the steering wheel when held with both hands, any one else experienced this, any help appreciated as i am hopping to attend v-max and don't want to encounter any problems. cheers matt

if you bought it from a dealer then take it back and ask them to investigate.

if you bought it privately then the same suggestion, but make sure your wallet it stuffed with cash.

it could be a wheel bearing, duff tyre, cv joint, front diff, brake problem and others

i wouldnt v-max it until you have had it checked out

Bought from a ferrari dealer, but its 2hrs away, they did provide a full porsche warranty, if i book it into Porsche will they invetigate under warranty or do the charge for the investigation and then decide whether it's covered or not??

you need to take it back to the Ferrari dealer, or seek their approval to take it to Porsche.

otherwise you take it in to Porsche they find an issue that isnt warranty and then you end up in a mess. the ferrari dealer is on the hook for any problem in 90 days not just what the warranty stipulates, but are under no obligations to pay opc costs if you dont seek approval first.

i would suggest you write a letter to the Ferrari dealership detailing the issue and asking for them to resolve or to confirm that if you take it to a local porscheagent that they will cover whether warranty or not.

what you could do is pop down to the local opc, say you think your car may have a fault and ask if they could spare a technican for a quick look to tell you if its normal or not..

Take it into Porsche,,,,maybe they will discuss whether it is covered under warranty, that is often the way.....you have just bought a 5 year old car for £50k.....expect to spend some money,,,,,often cheaper to get things sorted at once rather than a big bill later on...good luck

it was only bought from a ferrari dealer 2 weeks ago, its their problem to resolve irrespective of warranty cover or not. you could get the opc to check it out on the basis that you think you might have a problem, or pay them for an inspection - but unless its warranty you should put in writing to the Ferrari dealer that the fault needs to be resolved.

this one wont cost you any money to sort if you act quickly

I would start with the tyres, balence, out of shape, etc.[correct wheel nuts!]
Alloys true and round.
Wheel bearings.
Half shafts.
Front diff Ass'.
Check for Acc' damage.[hopefully not!]

Regards Mark.

Very normal. The light front end and "mass in the ass" makes for a lot of vibration and supersensitive at the front end on a 996TT, overall it's very sensitive to both geometry and wheel balance. Either out of whack by even a bit and tolerances accommodated by other cars are not tolerated by a 996TT. In my experience. Even a few 'bar in the tyres can be felt at 100 mph let alone duff tie ins and balance. Sort that first before and looking for drop links, gaiters and such.

Nipped down to OPC chester, have to say tech was great, fitted me in straightaway and roadtested the car, seems like there is slight wear in one of the front wheelbearings, gonna ring me monday to tell me if it,s covered or not under opc warranty (somehow doubt it!!!)anyone had these done under warranty?? time to go back to the supplying dealer just to let them know.....now the fun starts!!!

Well done Matty! done the correct thing. There should be no problem with going back to dealer who sold you the car, if there is, see if you can get anything in writing from Porsche regarding replacement (not sure if they will) but glad you have found problem!!!

What! Is that normal for a 19k miler to have a worn wheel bearing? How did you check the mileage was accurate? Sounds a bit iffy.

FMDSH every receipt, every invoice, every bill and just about everything else you can think of, so no the milage is not iffy, just unlucky i guess, tech at the porsche centre said they change them quite regular, in fact had a c4s just in having the same job done
