Just fitted some new bulbs to the 996 over the weekend. Bought the kit from www.aceparts.com and have to report that the results are stunning. Job took just under an hour, just had to drill a hole on the back of the headlight unit and use the supplied grommet. Ballasts fitted inside the front wings, loads of space in there. Would recommend the conversion to anyone.

Drove the car for about 200 miles in the dark this weekend and the change was amazing, also pleased that no other drivers flashed me so they cannot be dazzling to oncomers. Make the car look a little more up to date as well.

Thanks to Alan at aceparts for chasing the delivery.

Thanks also to Very Sideways for the pics of his 993 conversion.

I did mine with an Aceparts kit about a month ago and have been very pleased by the improvement on my 993's headlights. The only slight difficulty was finding enough room in the left hand wing to place the ballast in accordance with the instructions. That area seems to be full of piping! However, despite not finding room to stick the ballast to any surface, the tight fit seems to have ensured that nothing rattled about and there have been no problems. The improvement in lighting is amazing and I've also noticed no 'flashing' from on-coming vehicles.

In passing, I should say that I was most impressed with Aceparts's prompt service! Thanks again, Alan!

Anything that makes a 993 look "up to date" has got to be good.

Do you do a similar kit for the 968? Can you post a link to the right product on your site? I'm not very clear just what I need for the conversion.

It's not on my site as it's being rebuilt as we speak! It's a moving shutter H4 you need. £150.

how much are hid lights for 993? mine are pathetic, worse than 964, or maybe its just because you're going faster.

OK. All 964's and earlier 911s as well as 968s and 944s = £150 (switchable H4's)

All 993's = H1 = £125

All 996 = H7 = £125

Do the 968's pop up headlights cause any difficulties? Does the ballast fit within the light housing itself, or in the front of the car? And what function does the ballast play?

Just picked up the 996 HID upgrade from ACEparts, including the LED H6W side light replacements. All in £125 and it looks a quality piece of kit, not just a load of bits in a bubble bag.

Looking forward to being able to see at night.
