According to the Top Gear website:

**************

James and Richard love the Porsche 911. Jeremy hates it.

So with a new 911 Turbo out, it seemed only fair to let Captain Slow and the Hamster take it for a blast. However, it seemed far funnier to hand the 480bhp supercar over to JC to see whether it was good enough to convert a life-long Ferrari fan.

What a surprise, JC doesn't like a Porsche! The guy is a prat of the highest order.

Anyone know what his problem with Porsche is? Did they fly him economy class to a launch someplace?

A few years back, in one of those DVD's released just before Christmas, JC put a 996 GT2(?) infront of his 'favorite' 355 in the 'best car of all time' pecking order.

I think JC has a high respect for Porsche, but they don't give him a lazy lob on like Ferrari's and Jags seem to.

He's a likeable , amusing , intertaining idiot ... But he's still an idiot nonetheless.

He seems to have to say 'black' when everyone agrees 'white' is the only correct reply , and as such his opinion cannot be taken seriously ..

Having said all that - I'll still be watching tonight.

It's entertainment for some of us, I'd look elsewhere for an actual review.

I like his approach - it's all fun and any excuse to raise his voice an octave and get all high pitched about things that a lot of us all think, but maybe don't say.

I think he is good value for my license fee, unlike other things and would prefer to see him commentating on sporting occasions that he doesn't like, than some of the billed experts - EG - Jamie Redknapp this afternoon:

<broad Essex accent>ee ain't theffastest, buh wot heez got is a schpeed 'o fought 'o mind innit </essex>

I don't always agree with JC, but I love his arguements - a bit like Tony Benn.

Of course, if he liked the 911 Turbo then I'm guessing he'd be a journalist held in high regard

Anyone who doesn`t like the 997 Turbo will probably say it has no character.I think Porsche have made the car too damn good.We have just sold ours after four months ownership,it can be driven by anyone.Thats its problem.Performance is staggering, handling amazing, looks wonderful, but doesnt firighten cats, its everyones friend.Hats off to a fantastic everyday supercar.

Best supercar in the world for the money end of story.
Ferrari/Jag give JC a semi are in a different league.
Ferrari too much money for something which breaks down and falls apart, Jaguar just doesn't cut the mustard at this level.
As mentioned JC a good entertainer, poor motoring pundit.

Doesn't cut the mustard at what level? Why are people always having a go at Jag these days, yeah they've made some rubbish in recent years but the new XKR is an awesome car and people aren't giving Jag enough credit for it, things are definately going in the right direction for Jag.

Prob as no time/money left after yet another stupid stunt that has FA to do with what the program should be about. All you need is a few more melons and it'll be turning into an FHM.

At least JC admitted the 997 is faster, more practical, cheaper etc etc despite his I'd still have the 430 comment.
