Received the most laughable trade in offer yet today at an anonymous OPC.

Let's have a little sweepstake here. KayC, get your PC fired up hehe

2000 Carrera 2 TipS
63,000 miles, FPSH (nine services and well over ten grand), 18" Turbos with colour crests, full grey leather, new Becker hifi + iPOD

Second 48k service two days ago at OPC plus fuel filter plus belt plus transmission fluid change (ker-ching!)
Virtually new front and brand new (500 miles) rear PZeros
New brake pads all round at OPC five months ago
Generally excellent condition, a few stone chips on the nose, but "very very tidy" according to the offending salesjockey.

How much do you reckon they offered me?

I'll give you a clue - it started with a "1".....

hehe

So an OPC doesn't wish to buy back a 7 year old car. Hardly surprising?

If it started with a 1, then I'd be hoping for £19,999.99p.

Hmmm. Well, as you know I am a big supporter of OPCs, but really.

There are loads of 98,99 and 00 996s in the network, cheapest one is £30k for a 98 car......

Thing is, if they'd offered me £5k less than thy would sell it for (remember it's got new tyres, new brakes, and had a 48k service 50 miles ago.... so needs nothing other than a painted nose and a polish) then I would have done a deal on the nice Turbo Tip they had for £60k.

I reckon they'd retail it for £32,995 so surely given it needs no work it's worth a bid of £27k?

Their loss....

Would their bid have been higher with a manual gearbox?

ie a 7 year old car will likely be going to an enthusiast rather than a traffic commuter.

How immensely generous of you hehe

What would you retail it at after your YTS bloke has washed it vacummed it out?

hehe

Seriously, do they expect I'm going to do a deal at that price? That's £20k less than I paid two years ago... added to which an OPC has a 98 car with the same mileage as mine and a lesser spec (and no recent 48k plus pads plus tyres plus fluid changes) up at a fiver short of £30k.......... Even if my car (with all that work done) and two years newer is only worth the same as the 98 car, that's a more than £10k spread!!

I want a Turbo really badly, but I don't want to get fisted doing it! If they'd offer me £5k less than they would retail it (to pay for the YTS blokes prawn sandwich and some Bensons.....) then I'd buy the Turbo. So they'd make a small profit on my car (after prep and VAT etc) PLSu they'd make a fat profit on the Turbo. But no, they just want to fist you.

I got a call from Porsche a couple of weeks back doing research on OPCs. I said I was very very happy, but had a few choice words over the trade in offers.....

Well the OPC wouldn't be retailing it, so they would be relying on getting a 'trade bid' for it.

Depending on whether you were looking for a price for them to just take it off you, or a part exchange deal, I would guess £20-22k(ish).

£18,000

I'm sad to say we won't ever be buying a Porsche again. I got scalded the first time around but was promised it was only because it was an outgoing car and a Euro Import. 2nd time around I got a 3rd degree burn.

Well let me see..

Purple
About to become too old to be warrantble
Tiptronic
Customer supplied oil for servicing

They work on £10k margins

So I would have thought £18,500 to retail for £28,500

PS welcome home

I really don't see the problem. You must know the opc offer would be laughable, but hey, thats the price you pay for the ease of a deal on the turbo.

Private sell (avec time wasters, tyre kickers, while the value of your car naturally heads south) & a few weeks later into the opc with the cash for the turbo.

Except they sold it a fortnight ago.

I've never had a main dealer px price (any marque)that was not a joke, but there are plenty of folk who will deal just for the ease of a walk in walk out deal.

Must admit I am a bit shocked. Even though this isn't a car most OPCs would sell themselves, you would still expect something a bit closer to what they can offload it to the trade for. BMW are the same, the main dealers prefer newer, low mileage cars as they retail them themselves, the others they just offload.
