Porsche owners - SBMC charity rides
Discussion
Sporting Bears (Motor Club) organise 10-mile passenger rides at a few selected events (some of you already help us by offering your cars)
Sporting Bears Dream Rides - what's it all about
All money raised goes to children's charities in the UK
The next event is the big charity fund raiser for us:
The NEC Classic Car Show
9 -11 November
See PH Calendar
and
Sporting Bears Dream Rides - what's it all about
We're in Hall 2 now (not four as advertised)
This why we do it
One of last year’s recipients Leicestershire Down's Syndrome Group at Filbert Street receiving our ceremonial cheque

Not all the cars belong to club members so if you have a nice car (and do NOT drive like an idiot) why not follow the links and offer it

Thank you, Nigel

Don't recognise any of the events as being iin the South East. Would Sporting Bears work in conjunction with Pistonheads and run a road based event starting from say Goodwood or Brands Hatch?
Thanks for your post
We've attempted rides at a race circuit (on the track) before and it wasn't very successful and only really boosted by the rides Ken Tyrell gave
As well as considering the cars available you also have to look the potential passengers and if there would be any
Most of our ride events are part of larger events where the numbers of potential passengers are larger enough to see some turned into actual passengers
We get many requests to take the rides to various events that for many reasons we may not be able or want to take up
ETA: Thank you to the moderator for the sticky
Many other clubs want to copy the idea for themselves and we always wish them luck and want them to succeed with it for the sake of charities but very rarely do the clubs actually do their own rides as it's not as easy as it looks to organise and run these rides
Having said all that if someone can set up something suitable we would certainly consider it, we ran successful Sporting Bears Dream Rides at Brooklands for a couple years

Sorry guys, although I love the look of '1st Time Passengers' I'm based in Windsor - Inverness is a drive too far....
Sorry I think you've posted on the wrong thread
This is what this one is all about

Right thread, but a cursory look at the list of events showed them to be very Scottish, including Inverness.
Which is a bit too far for me to travel.

(This thread is for the ride events)
I think you're looking at the 'Events Diary' page and not 'The Sporting Bears Dream Rides - what's it all about' page where the link should take you
There's only one Scottish rides event
Lots of Scottish events/meets on the 'Events Diary' page, in fact that's a good point now we've got the Shire Bears (Northants and surrounding area) established we ought to post our monthly meetings
This link takes you to Sporting Bears Dream Rides event page

Unless of course you're pulling my leg

No, Nigel, no leg pulling, just fould it a bit confusing. Yes, I was looking at the events page, but was thinking of the Dream Rides.
To make things easier is there an event in the Berkshire area?

Not so easy for me I'm no good at geography, luckily the CAMRA Good Beer Guide shows counties on the back page map
None in Berkshire sorry (good pubs tho' I sem to remember)
I would guess nearest to you would be Blenhiem then Evesham or Vaynor Festivals moving up a bit more Gaydon and then the big one NEC
Thanks for your persistance
Since my car is not road legal (at the mo!!) a bit difficult...
However, was a Sporting Bear a few years ago and did some of these charity runs on the old runway at Brooklands -an absolute hoot and the marshalls positively encouraged hooligan driving!!!
I had a ride in a blown 1930's MG -that was barking!! The noise from the 'Brooklands' exhaust almost gave me permanent hearing damage
The driver maxxed it in all the gears, all 150bhp...

Melv, thanks for your endorsement
I think we briefly meet at one Brooklands event if your car was all white then
I can't remember if it was 2003 when we also had the excellent Morgans and Mad Nad the nurse in the Viper, or 2001, on the hottest day of the year, with Paul's Diablo and a Metro 6R4
Photos here in case you didn't see them
