997 RS flywheel noise

Just got the RS and compared to the GT3 it is really chattery, noisy at idle and around town W/without sport button pressed. Spoke to dealer and said it is normal. Anyone experienced the same ?

Normal with single mass flywheel, nothing to worry about.

The 996 GT3 RS is also noisy

put your foot on the clutch and the noise goes away


its to keep the weight down and the makes the engine more responsive

mines the same. Tis a wonderful noise just like a ducati 999s on tickover. push the clutch in and it goes away.

IMO the 'chatter' is the most noticeable difference between the 996/997GT3 and the 996/997GT3RS.

Some people don't mind it, others find it annoying.

It's an inevitable symptom of having less mass in the flywheel.

If you don't like it I take it off you. Would offer my C2S which does not chatter at all in response...

A duel mass flywheel absorbs crank shaft torsional vibration so it doesn't damage the gearbox bearings, you don't have a duel mass therefore your gearbox rattles so you have a nice revvy engine

so in that case, what you're saying is that a single mass flywheel (or lwf) will damage the gearbox bearings?

duel mass just makes for a smoother car rather than a harse race car, what ever way you look at it the duel mass flywheel absorbs torsional vibration from the crankshaft so the gearbox doesn't chatter, maybe i worded it wrong, porsche would not fit it if it would do harm i guess. it also aids smooth clutch uptake with a 15 degree spin on the duel mass, noisey when at fault
