Not alot of GT3s

You can work out the number of 996, 997s from this as well
I may have got this completely wrong so happy to be corrected... but based on tjlees' data and assuming no write offs/exports/etc drop offs on older models, i've made an attempt to disect the data into 996/7.1/7.2/RS. It would seem that the 7.2RS is the least common variant, wouldn't it (?)

Ps - this doesn't include the 4.0

So just to clarify these are UK registered cars so from 2006 to 2008 there were 963 gen 1 997 gt3's built?
I think I'm right in saying gen 1's were only made between this period

I may be completely wrong also are just confused but there where no 996's made in 2012 2011 2010 etc so can't really understand your data

The figures are not cumulative. They reflect vehicles licensed in each year.

It gives a rough idea of numbers in the UK.

I wonder if it includes SORN scratchchin

The RS variants really are rarer than rocking horse droppings then, although the base 3's can hardly be accused of blocking up the UK roads, can they?

Which is more believable..

1) Dealers across the country have formed a cartel to artificially keep the prices inflated on a specific marque and model of vehicle, and their "gain" is having their money tied up in assets sat on their forecourts...

2) You can't afford, or aren't prepared to pay, the going rate for a 996 GT3 of a specification that you desire.

Sorry to be blunt - but that's the long and short of it in my opinion, at least when it comes to dealers.
This. The economy has meant everyone wants everything for cheap. Not everyone is having a bad time in this economy. Porsche can't deliver enough Cayennes, Ferrari sell out of the 458 / 458 Spider etc....not everyone is having a bad time.

I wish people wouldn't use the economy as a reason why businesses should sell at a loss. Get's on my tits.

^^ All of this data isn't showing build numbers, so it's not of much use IMO.

These are total build numbers, not UK only. All of these cars are pretty rare. Some uk build numbers are very low with 100 cars or less. In thesse instances each car sold can often make its own market.

Do you have build numbers for the 997 GT3 and 997 GT3 RS models too?
I would really appreciate it, thank you.

Indeed, they are total build numbers, I don't have individual market numbers to hand. Factor in the fact that many may have been written off etc and you're left with some very rare cars.

997 Build Numbers - my source book only has build numbers up to model year 2007. They continued producing the Mk1 997 GT3 into MY2008 but I don't have these numbers. So bear in mind there will be more cars than listed below, as a whole production year has been missed.

997 Mk1 GT3 - 2377 (+? '08 cars)
997 Mk1 RS - 1104 (+? '08 cars)

I know that the number of 996RS,s left in the UK is much less than 100 and of those, very few are undamaged with good provenance. Hence the disparity in pricing. I'm sure that the same can be said for all 996 GT3's. Having been so close to this market for so long I'd be far more interested in finding a car with the right provenance than a car for the right price. When a driver in a 996GT3 has an off, it's more often than not a big one.

Doesn't that depend on your definition of small or large? smile

E.g. There were 1960 RS60 Spyders produced of which around 200 are in the UK. Some would say its a mass produced special edition. Same could be said for Cayman R and Spyder with similar numbers.

I agree ..so few good cars out there..the guy i bought my 996Rs from spent 18 months looking for one and many miles driving to look at so-called minters...he paid up for it and so did i when i bought it from him..if you want the best of any rare commodity you invariably have to pay up.

I was driving at Brands Hatch GP yesterday in my 968 CS and was taken as passenger in a beautiful orange 997.1 GT3 RS. The thing was bloody awesome. So much so that I think I may have to scratch the itch.

Does anyone recognise this car? I'm sure it was for sale at 911 Virgin a month or two ago, but seems to be back on the market.
