A sense of occasion....
Discussion
That's it... Having finally been in the back of Ricc's 993RS I think I finally have the answer to the 993/6/7 debate.... The 993 and the 996 are two entirely different cars. Sure, they're both 911's but that's where the similarity ends. Sally will sit at 140 all day every day or crawl along in traffic without ever missing a beat. She's comfy and remarkably efficient at disposing of large distances in complete air conditioned comfort very quickly if you so wish.
The air cooled beasties seem to be a different animal all together. Alright so Ricc's is a stripped out racer but nonetheless there's a sense of occasion when you sit in her that you simply don't get in the 996. The 993 feels older (not worse, just older) yet that isn't a bad thing... It's like your favourite MILF or perhaps Jack Nicholson when he gives that menacing smile of his.
I wouldn't necessarily want to be in the RS all day long or commuting to work but when the moments right it sure hits the spot
Two different cars for two different occasions.

Noooo (although I know what you mean) It's like my old E30... There was a sense of occasion every time I drove that (even when I crashed it )
It's like the difference between a new restaurant and one with horse brassings and stone walls (sorry, couldn't resist it!) They're probably both equally good, just different.

And to think I was trying to put the worms away, not feed them on billy....
I've driven quite a few manual coupes too... Mine just happens to be what I want out of a car for every day use. I can ferry (not him) the kids about and if I balls up the car will do it's best to keep them safe, so why we choose a particular car depends on what we want out of it, not necessarily because it's "better".
Keeping on topic (just) I'm not saying either is better, but I can see why each is good at what it does just in a different way.

does that mean you'd consider a 993?
I'm not being drawn into that debate on an open forum
I'll take that side step as a yes then
It's not a side step, I've got a dodgy leg
Now if you asked me if I would have an RS or a GT3......
There you go Nervy

you are aware that P did produce ga-ay 993's
i was going to suggest thats probably why he was all turned around on the subject, but its actually more likely cos hes leading with his bad leg on a un-friendly camber.
You and me, anti-clockwise race round a small hillock, now.

Agreed, and when this lot of hardtop ponces can get round a track as fast as a well driven cabrio then they can talk :P
the phrase 'well driven' is the key there oliver. ask rob to tell you his roundabout fable.
No no and thrice no.... And at least it was the product of intentional lift off oversteer....
However the end result was anything but intentional!
