Dear All,

I am new to the forum having only recently uncovered it.

Very active and packed with great advice.

When is the best time to buy in order to get the biggest choice and best price - now, or in March when the new registration comes out ?

I am looking to buy a 996 for up to £25-£30k.

I am not particularly fussed on model e.g. Coupe/Cabriolet, C2/C4 etc.

Ultimately, i want to get the best quality and best value car I can for my money so willing to be flexible.

Thanks guys.

The 993 is a beautiful carf and I was tempted but I think the 996 will be better suited to my requirements, in particular:
- quieter motorway driving
- more room for the kids in the back
- nicer dashboard !!

Thanks for the 'heads up' on the GT3 Steve.

Unfortunately the GT3 is a little too raw for my requirements.

Would make a good Track day car though !

Hi Diesel (funny name for a Porsche owner ),
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours and what type of warranty did it come with ?

Also, what would your recommended spec be i.e. what should the car have in terms of gadgets and history ?

Your advice will help me immensely as at the moment I am totally confused with all the options and different vehicles for sale in terms of mileage and owners !!

Thanks DucatiGary.

Unfortunately I do not want the sport suspension.
A few cars I have owned have had sport suspension e.g. Focus RS and BMW 330i Sport.

Although great for handling, my has complained about the ride in both cars so I have learnt my lesson - if you want the wife to like your car, don't get one with a hard suspension !

Good luck with selling it though, it sounds great !

Thanks Diesel, some really useful info you have posted.

I have bought some magazines with 996 buyers guides (and one for 993 but discounted those).

I will also buy the Peter Morgan book on your advice.

Sounds like you bought a great car - very similar to what I am after although I would prefer Black but don't mind a dark blue or silver. I also don't mind the tan interior.

Interesting point about road tax and emissions though.

Cyberface, unfortunatelyh I am not the Spyros you mention although I am a Project Manager !

Diesel,

One more question, your posting seemed to suggest that there is less boot space in a Carerra 4 Vs a Carerra 2 - is this correct ?

Is the reduced boot space significant or just a few centimeters ?

Thanks guys - that sounds like a significant difference in boot space, particularly when you consider it is not cavernous to start with

Diesel,

You mentioned some links to engine reviews etc.

Can you point me to them please. I can't seem to find them !

Thanks
