PH scoops Porsche GT3 spy shots

Stripped out 997 delivers 400bhp

PistonHeads has scooped these latest pictures of the forthcoming Porsche 997 GT3, which our sources say won't be released until summer 2006. The car in the shots is camouflaged only by black paint covering the additional air outlet at the rear.

Said to make some 400bhp, the GT3 looks very similar to the Aerokit, with one additional air outtake in the front (like the GT2) and two at the rear (similar but not identical to the Turbo's), centrally mounted exhaust like the GT3-Cup car, PCCB (ceramic) brakes.

We also hear that, prior to its release, the 997 Turbo will emerge in between January  and March 2006, while the 997 Targa is on track for a similar launch window as the GT3.

Expected price for the GT3 in Germany is some €105,000-€110,000 including 16 per cent VAT -- that's about £70,000-£73,000.

400hp seems like a big ask from 3.8 atmo liters doesn't it?

Why? F430 does 483 from 4.3 litres.

I meant useable power. And the F430 has a V8 and an extra .5 liters

Usable power? With all due respect, what are you going on about?

Also, power output is not directly related to number of cylinders. The specific output of the 430 is approx 112 bhp/litre. The specific output of the GT3 is 105 bhp/litre.

Not sure about front bumper or rear wing.!

Would have been nice to see a Rennsport rear wing as standard..

In the flesh will tell, I suppose.

i've got 410BHP from my GT3 MK1 3.6 with a motec system/different cams and another 100lbs of torque. feels pretty smooth and a very big difference with the extra torque! so 400bhp from a 3.8 I think is easily attainable

Nick I think it is very unlikley that you have got another 100 of torque with just cams and ECU

Well 996 GT3 has approx 105.5hp/litre

3.8 * 105.5hp equal to 400.9hp

Not unresonable.

Plus, as technology evolves, there are many engines

that pump out more than 100hp/litre. I don't see any

unresonable about 400hp

By useable I mean everyday power (eg mid range grunt), not peaky top end stuff ala Exige. But I guess it could be done. It is a Porsche after all...

Despite some sources saying this will have the 3.8 motor, the good money is on it having the same 3.6 that is currently in the GT3 and GT3RS

The New GT3 will have the GT1 based engine and will be 3.6L putting out about 410HP.

Not long to wait now....

Nope (not even with air cooling and 2 valves per cylinder ).

I for one can't wait to see the power & torque curves...

Don't believe the Ferrari power output figures. They're a bunch of terrible liars that will one day be sued for their overstated claims. The "420hp" Challenge Stradale produces no more than 380hp on the dyno. And I've never seen more than 370hp from the suppoed the 400hp 360 Modena/Spider. And trust me I've had LOADS on the dyno. The 483hp that's meant to come from the Ferrari 430 certainly doesn't feel like it... An ACTUAL 400hp out of a GT3 engine will feel pretty horny I reckon.

Hi Deep

Well Bob Watson did the work. Ruf Exhaust, 100 cell cats, new cams, polished/gas flowed heads, motec system. He had a pretty accurate rolling road. Certainly pulls a hell of a lot harder in 5th and 6th on the motorway. don't need to change from 6th in most situations so i can feel a lot more torque. So I guess I sort of believe Bob. A lot of the GT3 cup cars go up to him.

I think it will be expensive to maintain. My business partner has just bought a fully specced 911 S with the GT3 body kit like the one being tested.... he had grounded the nose at least 5 times in the first week on normal roads!

Naaa, dont like it, still looks like a beetle with a big wing!

Will porsche every change their styling? Doubt it. So for Porsche lovers, its right at home I suppose, but I do agree the nose doesnt do the beefy rear any justice, maybe its a drag/co-eff thing...
