fwiw guys, I was at Bruntingthorpe this weekend & the track is fine, pretty smooth, good circuit & the straight speaks for itself. If you do decide to go there & would allow one non (but ex)TVRer I'd love to come.

21TVR said: Ok, but is it about location mostly Nick? or surface? or that ridiculously long strait?

(uum good spelling! ridichuosllluty it looks wrong now!)

whilst i've got this open:
Having spoken to one organiser, it looks like we would need to get together about 40 Tusk's!
This could be very possible - It would be one hell of a Tuscan meet, maybe the one for the year!

I belive the straight is the longest in the UK.Most people seem to say the surface is good and it's only 10 miles from my parents place.Although as I would be travelling over from Belgium it can be anywhere as long as the surface is good.

This in from TomOSmith in a post on the other place

Ok, I'm in for a Tuscan only track / airfield day. Would
it also be sensible to get some instructor to come and
help out? While really going for it why not try to get
a dealer to sponsor (and maybe bring some super thrashable
demonstrators)?

Tom this is a good idea
The organisers have instructors on hand (extra $) but I will look into the possibility of having a first class instructor on hand as well (extra, extra $)

As to using a demo car, I think the idea is to get to know YOUR car - your not going to trash it, warm it up a bit maybe

Nick, I'm there on the w/end of 8/9th March so will check it out then. I'm keen on using a known trackday organiser so it would depend on wether they can use the venue also

Nick we need the experienced department at this event as well to provide some knowledge and contrast

I know Jonny at www.bookatrack.com does car specific days and would happily put a day on if there were sufficient numbers - no affiliation - I've just had very good days out with both of these guys with the Tuscan - Donni this weekend just gone was the best track day I have done!

Count me in. As for instructors, I have just had a lesson with Don Palmer (See EVO back pages) who does all his track work at Bruntingthorpe. I am sure we could get his services for the day for not too much extra. As it happens I am going up there this Saturday and I know he would like a couple more people either side of my lesson so if anyone would like a sneak preview of the circuit and a professional racing lesson for about £100, e-mail me at simon.david@aon.co.uk.

Before we get too excited about Bruntingthorpe (I know the long straight appeals) we'll have to see what the organisers come back with in terms of venue

Sure we could look at running our own event at Brunting, but then we're into the whole hassle of cones and marshals and catering and liability and.....stuff
This could turn out to be more expensive and stressful than simply turning up and concentrating on the driving!!

Also, the instructor thing is just a fluffy hot bath at this stage. The organisers may not want us to provide any (more) instructor(s) - as I haven't finalised with an organiser yet, lets just keep that on the back burner

But woooooh! Don't let me put you off - the numbers are building up and that is exactly what is required if this thing is going to get off the ground. Plenty of names are needed because come the actual date who is going to be able to make it (probably not me! How typical would that be !)

Don't lose sight of the original concept (what was it now...oh yeah, to find my car keys, where are they..? No that wasn't it..)

Just as soon as I've got an organiser sorted I'll come back to you, until then just keep posting

Just to throw in a plan B,,

Last year (I think)a whole load of us (lots of Tuscans and Cerbies) went up to Elvington, which is near York. This is the headquarters of the british land yachting scene - there is a runway, with 1.92 miles straits up and down - very wide, not bad surface, good 'paddock' area, decent run-offs and big grins . I 'clocked 176 mph on the speedo - but had a misfire at 6700 rpm - cars (Tuscan S's mainly) were whistling past me. I got some photos too.

Just a thought- although a long way away for many it was okay coz we made a weekend of it - good shopping in York for 'er indoors (actually - she drove faster than me!). One of the chaps on the other place organised it at the beginning, but sensibly involved a trackday co - I think it was bookatrach, or easytrack to help with the thing on the day.

I'd be interested too depending on when and where it is held and what the insurance arrangements for it would be. I'm in West Yorks so I'd love a visit to Elvington if anything is planned there.

I think Elvington last year started out as a couple of blokes who thought it would be a good idea to hire the place out for a bit of high speed hooning, but had to turn it a bit more official so that appropriate marshalls and paramedics were around, so the West Yorkshire TVRCC got involved. I think they have organised it again for this year, in September I think.

Doesn't stop us going there does, it. Also doesn't stop us going somewhere else before as well - it'd be good to get a bunch Tuscan's together on a track.

Cheers,

Andy.

My thoughts exactly Andyvdg!

It would tie in with the 'Gates of Hell' thread:- We can listen to all the exhaust variants

Simon,

I organised the day at Elvington last year. As Andy said it started of as a couple of us wanting to organise a bit of a blast, but as is moved on I realised I neded stuff like liability insurance etc as the organiser !!! So decided the easiest way would be to use the TVR car clubs. Any way long story short, the club stipulated what else I had to have in place. Marshals etc.

Do nt let me put you off, but dont leave your self open if you are organising it yourself. You dont want some ones other half sueing you cos they stuck there Tuscan through a fence and killed themselves.

I'll be organising another day at Elvington on September 13th, with the West Yorks TVR Car Club for anyone interested. I'll post more details once everything is sorted. But if you cant wait that long and want to know what I had to put in place feel free to drop me an email, or on the Tuscan owners group.

Cheers,

Gazza

Thanks Gazza for this, yes, i'm well aware of this! That's why I think it's better that a professional organiser hosts the event - better for all concerned (liability aside!)

but then nobody is going to meet any fences, or damage their motor ARE THEY - it's a b****y Airfield, and anycase there will be so much car pointing and gassing going on I doubt wether there will be time to drive!!

may see you at Elvington then!

see ya

I was at a day at Elvington a couple of years ago organised by someone else, and a bloke there was showing his mate how to do a power slide. All wnt well until he power slid into a fence !!!

Oh how laughed at his missfortune, once hed left on a trailer.

But this had the knock on effect when we wanted to organise a day there. The TVR CC had been involved / taken some flack for Mr power slide, so were a bit concerned when we tried to organise something similar.

As I said dont let that pot you off. With the 60 ish cars we had at Elvington last year, the day paid for its self just, at about £50 a car. So its still not too expensive.

Cheers Gazza
