I bought a new ex-factory one of ebay recently, I think the chap was selling a handful, I paid about £100.

Mine also only loses a couple of lines at cold, which appear when it warms up, so I will only replace it when it's stuffed.

I had thought the Clevor Trev one was a better quality updated one???

I don't think so. One of the cards has a battery attached to it, which powers the memory for the info. Don't know what the battery life is though!!

Bishy,

did you need to take the steering wheel off as my top cover seems to be screwed into the silver facia from under the leather trim.

Cheers

Scratch that - someone glued the top to the silver facia!

Scratch that! Its here!!!

I'll get cracking ASAP (ie soon as the beer gets cold enough) then try my hand at posting some pics.
Maybe (if it works) we could make a sticky?

Bit more of an effort than expected, although a funchtion of crap tools (a swiss army knife and a socket set) and poor quality screws,
Some pics (once I figure out how) tomorrow...

All done - just over an hour. Things to be aware of:

1. Mine had just three cables connecting it (large one at the rear and one either side).
2. Just four bolts hold the whole unit it, but they are two different lengths. On mine, the longer ones went in the lowest holes.
3. I found it safest to move the cables connected to the side of the unit out of the way when removing the display as it was a tight fit.
4. Excellent tip from Leven: the circuit board that they supplied me needed a little filing with a Dremel or such tool as it is a very tight fit into the aluminium surround. Only needs a mm or so taking off the end farthest from the display.

:-)

Hahahaha.
I could have done with that tip Saturday night!
I spent about an HOUR trying to either manoeuvre the screen in or undo the speedo motor bracket! Much use of expletives followd until the penny dropped. I ended up filing as well (30 sec job) and hey presto! :P

Ok, all you clever dicks who did there's in 1 to 2 hours, mine has taken 1 to 2 weeks!!

I got it all apart OK and got it back together once i too had worked out about filing the circuit board down to fit the new screen into the hole beneath the speedo bracket. Then the fun and games started.

When putting the pod back into the dash i managed to snag the 7 core ribbon cable from the switches that scroll the lcd screens and the hazard lights. It tore half the cable from the little control circuit board behind the switches. BUGGER.
Had to take the rest of the dash apart to get the little board out and find someone local who could re-solder the cable. (i am not good at soldering anything smaller than a mars bar!)

I got it back Friday and re-fitted over the weekend. IT all works lovely now!!
The only upside was a chance to clean all the leather in those hard to reach pod places.
All good now, went for a hoon on Sunday. Oh joy.......

Hello all!!!!!!

Firstly I am probably the worlds worst at anything and everything technical or even mildly fiddly.

Secondly I have the same problem that you all seem to be suffering. I spoke to my dealer who stated that it was probably the PCD board that had gone and coule be replaced at a cost of £360.

Is this the same resolution that you all seem to be talking about. please not I have just recently entered the world of TVRs and therefore am not up with all the various places that bits and pieces can be sourced hence going to main dealer everytime (who is actually 120 miles away from me!)

Its a common fault on MK1 Tuscans. It shouldn't cost any more than £145 + Vat to do it yourself (plus two hours or so of your time!)
£360 fitted still seems a bit high. Try getting a quote from leventech, i think they will be cheaper......
You dont have to 'do it yourself' to avoid main dealer pricing. There are plenty of independant workshops out there. Many are highly recommended on PH............

Sorry if I gave the impression that I had not read your post. I was trying to confirm that my prob could be sorted the same way i.e. I was told it was a pcb(?) board that needed replacing. I have no idea of what this is where it is and costs involved hence why I explained what quote I had got. But never fear I am on the case of trying to find the cheapest way and thanks for all the info.

If you've got the lines across the screen, you're in the same boat as nearly everyone else.
I bought the Leven screen and it works fine, however when you compare the two circuit boards side by side, they look identical to me so I'd save some cash and get a screen from racing green or whoever it is for £90 odd (cannot remember the price quoted on the first page.

Then simply swap it yourself. Its straight forward. I'll get off my buns and post some pics (or try to) shortly as I have been lazy and remiss on this point.

Right, i took the plunge and did mine this evening. Photo-sequence here:

Replacing Tuscan Screen

I will post a step by step guide to go with it later, but essentially I followed the instructions on this thread, but with a few tweaks that seemed to be easier to my mind - i.e. I took all the screws out of the retaining bracket so I could just move it out of the way, and removing the steering wheel helped for ease of movement.

Cheers,
Gordon
