Tuscan Diagnostic Cable?
Discussion
Might be worth checking a couple of things first.
1. Make sure immobiliser is off I.e ecu is powered up ready to start.
2. Start diag software and press f10 key on laptop. This brings up configuration screen and will show either com1 or com2 configured.
3. Assuming you laptop has a 9 pin serial port this will be assigned to com1. The USB connection will be given another number. You can't change this to com1 without disabling the original port first.
My advice would be to use the native serial port and build the cable to this.

hi Erwin,
where should i see 'advanced settings'?
After r.clicking the USB-Serial Controllor icon, properties, I just have
General/Reinstall Driver,
Driver/Driver Details, Update Driver, Disable, Uninstall,
Details
cheers!
There should be a tab called "port settings" and the advanced button is there.where should i see 'advanced settings'?

It works fine upto Win XP with a USB-Serial converter lead. Just make sure that the converter lead is set to port COM 1 under hardware settings.
On Win7 you'll need Professional or above with the Windows XP Mode plug-in installed. The software runs fine through XP mode and you install and set it up in exactly the same way as on an XP PC, but within the Virtual XP PC.
So yes, it works fine with modern computers and Win7.

No such thing as a 3-pin 'D' or a 3-pin direct to USB, unless you made one with a serial-usb converter in the line wired specifically to work with the MBE ECU. D-sub serial and USB works on different systems so as far as I'm aware aren't directly compatible without a converter.
I've just got the diagnostic lead permanently connected up to a serial-USB converter so its hardly "untidy" and only adds 30cm or so to the lead length which is not a bad thing. I got mine from Maplin and it works perfectly with the TVR diagnostic software and also the MBE Easimap 5.5 software, although you can't alter anything with it as TVR ECU's are locked.

Bit of a newbie question here.
I've bought the connector(3 pin)from Clevor Trevor/Raceproved and the serial to USB adapter cable from Maplins.
I've just been grovelling in the drivers side footwell and found the ECU (MBE). What I can see is the wrapped cable 'bunch' going to the ECU, and coming off this wrap is a 2 pin connector on a sort of flying lead. Both wires to this 2 pin connector would appear to be black(?). Have I found the correct connector? I ask, because I have seen references to 2 pin connectors - - but on early cars - - mine is a 2004 Tuscan S Mk.1. The MBE ecu has got "Racing Green" written in felt tip, could this indicate a replacement ecu?
OR - am I looking in the wrong place entirely? Previous threads have advised that the 3 pin connector is tie wrapped to the loom going to the ignition switch/column console but I'm unable to find a 3 pin at the moment.
Thanks in anticipation!!
