hi all. have been the proud owner of a red rose tuscan for around a month now and loving every minute! exterior wise its pretty clean and i'll probabily be looking at tarting up the oily bits and might get some new carpets. just a quick question is it always difficult to engage 5th gear? it selects fine but upon accelerating it has a tendancy to pop out, and i find myself having to almost force it in. for now heres some pictures of her, in the only colour worth having!

Great colour.

Welcome to the fold.

I have to say that I don't have any issues with 5th gear.

The 5th Gear synchro in the gearbox can get worn down as most people engage 5th before reverse gear to help access to reverse. The 5th gear synchro is a fairly week part in the T5 box and can lead to failure of 5th gear.
I'm not saying this is your issue, I'm not that clued up, but a friend of mine had this happen on his Tuscan and got a £750 bill to remove the box and fix the synchro and refit the box to the car!!
Nice car and a great colour ,enjoy.

I had exactly the same problem and just thought (hoped) it was a quirk until one day it popped out and wouldn't go back in.
Suffice to say the gearbox needed a rebuild, it was a good excuse to upgrade to close ratio anyway. Every cloud......... wink

Hope your's isn't as serious but it does sound very familiar!

Before you start to worry yourself. Firstly just check that the gear lever isn't fouling the centre console or the gearbox tunnel under the gaiters as sometimes the tunnel hasn't been ground out enough for clearence. If these are ok then maybe there is a fault in the gearbox. I hope this help's.

Check if your reverse light is working. If not, it could be that the gear lever has turned. This could stop it from engaging properly.

My 5th gear used to do this on my Cerb, as above, I thought it was a quirk, until it decided to eat itself under hard acceleration one day.
