Just received details of the new scheme, and thought people may be interested.

Should, hopefully, increase residuals & make selling used model a bit easier (not that my car happens to be in the classified :hehe:).

The new warranty costs £950 for 1 year, or £1750 for 2 years.
The claim limit is the retail value of the car new & you can make unlimited number of claims.

Prior to the warranty your vehicle must undergo a 100 point check, with takes approx. 3 hours (£250 ish).

The cover includes:

Engine
Gearbox
Diff
Clutch
Wheel bearings
Propshaft
Fuel injection
Cooling
A/C
Power steering
Electrics

(This is not a full list, but is the major items)

Good new indeed.

I've heard that some dealers might be incorporateing this 100(ish) point check as past of a service to lessen the time and cost needed to do the check.
I can't make my mind up wether the total cost of the warranty is expensive or not.

I take it that the car doesnt have to be bought from a dealer, you can just get your car checked at the dealer and it runs from then?

Excellent! That is good news for everyone. Will mean that the second hand prices will stop freefalling to Ford Escort levels!

Is it a top to toe warranty, does it cover wear and tear of the stated items?

The big question is, if it needs a rebuild will it actually pay out? If the answer is yes, then I am sold for one.

My question is, has the car got to be serviced by a main dealer (£1,200) average, or is a indi service allowed (£650) average. If a indi service is allowed then people could then get the cover on what they save on the service bills,

My thought was that as well. The other factor is the £250 check. Then after the check the profit made from having the car put back to perfect condition to be warrantyable. For example it would be very easy to pick up some symptoms of engine wear to diagnose that a pre-emptive rebuild was necessary to make the engine warrantyable.

Similarly in real terms, earlier in the year when my 2000 Tuscan was brought it to sort out 'niggles' I think the full diagnosis included small oil leaks, small leaks from the radiatior etc. Whilst you may choose to run the car with very small leaks the cost of the oil hosing and fitting was £250 and new radiator £500.

It would be easy to see how once you have paid £250 for a full check in the hope of getting the car warranteed that you would get the expensive little niggles fixed to get the warranty.

This is not a critisism of the idea, which I think is great. The cost of getting the car up to scratch if it were a 2000 Tuscan for example may be quite a lot. On a car like that with original equipment, it would be very easy to say: clutch on the way out... suspension on the way out... radiator on the way out.... and even engine on the way to a rebuild... of course these are things which a Tuscan with twenty-something thousand miles under its belt, but may come so a shock to some people if they have an £8000 bill looming to keep their car on the road and get it warranteed!

That said I think the people who will get most benefit are those with newer car which are just coming out of manufacturers warranty, and at the price it is perhaps the 'put a grand in a savings account for repairs' idea is now not as good as it used to be?

I would have thought a main dealer after servicing your car would then pronounce it eligible for a warranty or not.

If they are happy to give you the car back serviced with no extra spotted faults it should be fine.

cheers

I have just bought a used Tuscan from Hexham Horseless Carriages and they have given me the new warranty. Valid for 12months and extendable beyond that. The paperwork suggests that it (Gold warranty) is available for cars up to 5 years old or 50000 miles.

It looks pretty thorough and hopefully gives a healthy bit of 'peace of mind'.

Some very good points guys. Be interesting to know more about the 100 point check - presumably whoever looks after your car could do a pre-check?

Thanks for all your points, Ive been wanting to know more about this warranty.
New to the TVR world (4 months) and the wife is already complaining of lack of attention and "there wont be any paint left on that car when you've finished polishing it".....anyway Im sure you all know what Im saying.

I bought a 5 year old with 8,000 miles and it goes like a dream (touch wood). Just had the clutch cylinder replaced and would like to know a bit more about the warranty, are there any sites to go to for a read?

For all your info - Im living in Belgium for one year and found a fantastic TVR garage near Gent (3.5 hour drive from London, good roads to open up), great service 45 euros hour labour - KF cars. Recommended ++++ will find out later if he knows anything on the warranty and can do the 100 point check with price.....keep you posted.

Not sure if this is relevant but I have had a quote of circa £1250 for a years warranty from my dealer - I got the impression that this is a 'wear and tear' warranty as opposed to standard failure warranty for less than a grand. Old warranty companies used to play havoc with refusing to pay out on engines issues as they were diagnosed as wear and tear!

I imagine if your car is already in a warranty and coming to the end of your term then this is the most attractive option as your car should be in almost perfect nick anyway! I'm sold - just getting quotes from different dealers to see if there is a price war going on!!

My Tuscan S is just coming to the end of its current extended warranty policy - and yes, they did pay some claims... Just taken the car to Racing Green to have the 100 point check. It cost around £250 for the check-up and the warranty (including cover for wear and tear) is about £1,300 - the non wear and tear option was closer to £900.

I had a long helpful chat with Martin their service manager before deciding to buy the warranty - pretty much everything is covered except for Cats.

Hopefully this will give me peace of mind for the next 12 months

hi all,

Just hoping someone with this new warranty can clarify 1 point for me.........can a warranty be brought for a Tuscan that is a 2000 model (ie 5 years old) ??? As above a poster has said that the warranty APPEARS to cover up to 5 yrs or 50000 miles.......Does anybody have clarification on this point???? If it is only for cars less than 5 years old then what about all the early Tuscan owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers

The Warranty scheme is specific to TVR dealers and can be sold at their discretion and following a 100+ point 'Check and Correct' inspection. The warranty can be applied on cars 0-5 years old and can include the 'wear and tear' cover. 5 years plus to 7 years the warranty is slightly more expensive and cannot be enhanced to cover 'wear and tear'. Hope that this helps. Best regards, Tony
